Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger commented on Thursday (12 September) the league trip to Sunderland, new club record signing Mesut Ozil and his contract situation.
On new signing Mesut Ozil, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said: “Honestly, I think it was linked with the (Gareth) Bale transfer. I don’t know exactly what happened inside the club (Real Madrid). In Madrid, was it down to financial reasons? Was it down to the fact that when they bought Bale they had Isco and maybe they had to let somebody go. I was surprised, yes.”“To say it was all under control is a bit exaggerated because not a lot was under control but I told you two or three days before, I looked a bit lonely when I said that, I was optimistic but in the end it happened. I thought we had the chance to do it – a small one but we worked very hard on it until the end. It was very complicated in the end because the timing was short. On Sunday when I came to the Tottenham game, just at 2 o’clock I thought we would manage to do it. We were 90 per cent there.”
