After months of waiting, Greg Norman has responded to Rory McIlroy for his criticism of LIV Golf. The Aussie slammed the PGA Tour player for his attack on LIV Golf and said that the Irishman “doesn’t know anything.”

It is pertinent to note that the Aussie golf legend’s comments come several months after the PGA Tour called for his removal from LIV’s leadership. Ridiculing the comment, Norman started his statement by saying that he was “still here.” He asked McIlroy to consider his words carefully and rethink his comments.

Speaking to Golf.com ahead of LIV Golf’s season opener in Mexico, Norman said:

“I’m still here, simple as that… Rory doesn’t know anything, right? All due respect to Rory, he doesn’t know anything about LIV. He knows something about the PGA Tour. I’ve always been a fan of Rory McIlroy’s."

He added:

"My advice to him is just sit back, take stock, watch what you say because in the end, there will be a situation where he’ll be asked a few questions that he may not want to be answering.”

Rory McIlroy and Greg Norman have had a war of words ever since the inception of LIV Golf. The Irishman, along with other PGA Tour players including Tiger Woods, has slammed the LIV CEO on multiple occasions. Despite the harsh criticism of him and his controversial Saudi Arabian-backed golf, Norman seems confident in his role.

Rory McIlroy’s attack on Greg Norman

In November 2022, Rory McIlroy took a direct jibe at Greg Norman when he called for the latter’s resignation. Being a spokesperson for the PGA Tour in the PGA-LIV fight, the Irishman said that the two circuits could work together but Norman “must go” for that to happen.

McIlroy said:

“I think Greg needs to go. I think he just needs to exit stage left. He’s made his mark, but I think now is the right time to sort of say, 'Look, you've got this thing off the ground, but no one is going to talk unless there's an adult in the room that can actually try to mend fences.’”

Later, McIlroy came out to claim that his relationship with Norman fell apart after the latter made personal comments about him. He was referring to the LIV CEO saying that McIlroy was "brainwashed" by the PGA Tour.

Following this, the PGA Tour champion said:

“I thought, ‘You know what? I’m going to make it my business now to be as much of a pain in his arse as possible.'”

Despite the harsh criticism, the golfer-turned-business tycoon has managed to hang on to his position as LIV CEO and is currently in charge of the new and extended LIV Golf League. Greg Norman remains positive that his controversial league can transform the sport of golf.
