The New York Mets suffered their 23rd loss of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. They are one game away from getting swept by the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park tonight.

The Mets’ rough season sparks speculation about some potential moves ahead of the trade deadline. Mets owner Steve Cohen’s response to a fan on social media, which has since been deleted, has further ignited the matter.

“All in the future, not much we can do until the trade deadline,” Cohen replied to a fan’s tweet on X (formerly Twitter) after the Mets’ loss to the Phillies last night.

Andy Martino of SNY reached out to the Mets owner after the incident to find out why the tweet was deleted. Cohen said the tweet was an accident and was intended to be sent as a personal message. Cohen also informed Martino that it had nothing to do with any trade.

“Cohen told me that he had actually meant to send a direct message, which he occasionally does when interacting. More importantly, he said he was not in any way indicating that the Mets will become sellers,” Martino said.

Cohen’s statement has led the fans to pick up their social media to voice their distress against the Mets front office for staying still without improving the team.

“I preferred when he was honest first time around. I think I enjoyed watching those 17-win Knicks teams more than I enjoy anything about these Mets,” a fan commented.
“This Mets offseason was an abomination. This is the first time in years I have no interest in watching games. If the Mets organization won't make an effort, neither will I,” a fan replied.
“It’s shameful. Cohen is quitting. Just like last year. Quitters mentality won’t bring this organization success,” a fan tweeted.

The Mets are 19-23, placing them second-last in the NL East. They have only won four of their last 13 games.

“Wait so he sent what he thought was a private message…where he’s more likely to be honest. Then in public he contradicts what he meant to say in private. We call that lying in English,” a fan commented.
“The mets dont have a single player that should even make the all star team this year...team from top to bottom needs to be overhauled,” a fan replied.
“Another fold by Cohen. He did nothing to improve this team in the offseason. Bad attendance numbers for good reason. I’m very disappointed with Cohen,” a fan tweeted.

The Mets need to rebound soon before it’s too late to catch up.

Mets’ owner is positive about the team’s playoff chance

In the same interview, Steve Cohen put his faith in the Mets and hopes to see his team in playoffs this year.

“I believe in this team,” Cohen said, via Andy Martino of SNY. “I know the fan base is frustrated, but it’s still early. We’re still very capable of making the playoffs. I fully expect to make the playoffs.”

After tonight's series finale against the Phillies, the Mets will travel to Miami to face their division rival, the Marlins.
