The 26-year-old forward from St. Gallen, Switzerland, has enjoyed another productive season for the San Jose Sharks. Through 51 games played this season, Meier has scored 28 goals and racked up 20 assists.

Meier is a pending restricted free agent this coming offseason, with a qualifying offer valued at $10 million. It appears that the San Jose Sharks may be unwilling to sign the forward to such a lucrative extension, making him a prime candidate for a trade.

Several teams have named Meier as their top deadline acquisition, including the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. Both teams are viewed as legitimate contenders for the Stanley Cup, so a deal for a prolific goal scorer such as Meier could potentially put them over the top.

The 26-year-old is coming off a four-year, $24 million contract with the San Jose Sharks, which he signed in 2019. Through 445 games with the Sharks, Meier has recorded 151 goals and 161 assists, totaling to 312 points recorded as a member of the Sharks.

While Meier remains one of the top talents who will certainly be traded at the Trade Deadline, another superstar may find himself in a new jersey for the remainder of the season.

According to multiple reports, Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings may be moved by the team, as both parties have failed to come to terms on a new contract extension. If a team were to miss out on acquiring Meier, Larkin may become their next target.
