Ireland and Scotland split points and take one point each from this game with the rain having the final say. The tri-series action resumes on Wednesday with Scotland returning to take on the hosts, Netherlands. Hopefully, the weather would be much better then. For now, this is Sourabh and Rajarshi signing off. Keep following Sportskeeda!
5:14 P.M. Local Time, 8:44 P.M. IST : Unfortunately we have some not so great news. There has been persistent rain since the morning and after an inspection, the umpires have concluded that the conditions are not safe enough for the match to take place with a lot of water on the covers and also the T20 world cup coming up for both the teams and so the match has been called off.
5:00 P.M. Local Time, 8:30 P.M. IST: There's no update from the venue yet. The start of the game has been delayed - the umpires will conduct an inspection of conditions now... further updates on 5:10 P.M. Local time.
4:40 P.M. Local Time, 8:10 P.M. IST: Apparently, it's been raining at the Hague. The wicket is under cover. The umpires have decided on an inspection in about 20 minutes' time from now. Might take a while for the toss to take place, stay tuned...
Hello and a very warm welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the 2024 European Cricket Network T20I Tri-Series, folks! The Netherlands, hosts of the 6-game series, have played both their games in the first of two rounds between them, Ireland and Scotland - it's the two visiting teams that'll contest each other for the third match today. Bringing you all the action from the game right here will be us - the duo of Rajarshi and Sourabh. Let's get started!
We've had a couple of pleasantly tight and even contests at the Sportpark Westvliet over the last two days. The wicket is a relayed one - there's been a bit of grass on it, the ball's skidded through to the batters on quite a few occasions from the palms of both pacers and spinners, and there has been quite a lot of help off the deck and air. With two teams stacked with more than decent hit-the-deck pace options, we might see a lot more of top-order batters being troubled while playing the new ball.
The Scots kept things tight after the powerplay in their first game against the Netherlands - Richie Berrington rotated his bowlers to good effect in the middle overs. A quickfire 39 off 18 from Vikramjit Singh propelled the hosts to 167 in their 20 batting first. Scotland then lost their top-order halfway into the powerplay of the run-chase to some quality seam bowling from Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek.
Richie Berrington and Matthew Cross came together to stitch a partnership, and were looking good in leading Scotland towards a dominant position in the game. Scotland, though, weren't able to find the boundaries too often, and once the partnership was broken, the Netherlands ran through the Scotland middle order. Matthew Cross' wicket at the start of the 17th over pretty much sealed the deal for the hosts on the opening day of the series.
Ireland, though, proved to be a more than equal match for the Netherlands yesterday. At 83 for 6 with just over six overs to come, they were in danger of being bowled out for a paltry total as the Netherlands bowlers extracted all sorts of help from the deck. However, an inspiring knock of 49 off 24 from Mark Adair, ably supported by Gareth Delany, took Ireland to 150 as they batted out their 20, and they had something to bowl with.
In reply, the Netherlands were off to a stable start, but as the middle overs rolled along, the boundaries began to dry up for them. Much like in the first game, Max O'Dowd had gotten off to a good start, but he and Bas de Leede had to be content with knocking the ball around and running hard between the wickets.
The hosts then suffered a middle order collapse going into the last three overs, but the bespectacled Tim Pringle kept his side in the hunt, taking the game right through to the last ball with some clean striking of the cricket ball. Having hit Adair for successive sixes and brought the equation down to 3 off one, Pringle was unable to connect well enough with the last ball, drilling it back to the bowler, and Ireland took the points.
So, which way are we going to see the metaphorical pendulum swing today? Can Ireland build on their win from yesterday and pip the hosts to the top of the table, or with Scotland go level on points with both their competitors? Let's find out - the toss and team updates will be out shortly!
