MATCH SUMMARY

Comilla Victorians, batting first - 188 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs; Moeen Ali 75 (35)
Khulna Tigers, batting second - 123 all out in 19.3 overs; Thisara Perera 26 (23)

Comilla Victorians beat Khulna Tigers by 65 runs.

Player of the Match - Moeen Ali 75 (35) (1x4, 9x6) and [4-0-20-2]

Comilla Victorians become the second team after Fortune Barishal to qualify for the play-offs with this win as they go top of the table.

It was a clinical performance in the end from the Comilla Victorians as their star players came to the fore today to ensure a comfortable victory.

After being asked to bat first, Liton Das got Comilla off to a flying start with fours and sixes coming at will. He got a bit of support from his opening partner Mahmudul Hasan Joy in getting them off to such a good start.

And then, it was the Faf and Moeen show! The pair added well over 50 runs together and batted extremely well, complementing each other and keeping the scoring rate high. Faf du Plessis was not at his fluent best today but was intelligent enough to score at more than a-run-a-ball by rotating the strike mostly, while hitting some boundaries otherwise. Moeen Ali from the other end was severe on the Khulna bowling, taking them to the stands 9 times! He did not forget to score a four either! It was scintillating batting from the English left-hander as all the bowlers that bowled to him were taken to the cleaners!

For Khulna, Nabil Samad was impressive once again with his economical bowling, finishing with 1 for 24 in his four overs, after getting hit for 16 in his very first over! Thisara Perera was again among the wickets, picking up 2 in his 3 overs. Ruyel Miah was the other bowler who impressed with his left-arm fast-medium bowling, but strangely, like Perera, did not bowl his full quota of overs. Mahedi Hasan's last over was a very good one that seemed to get Khulna back in the game. Captaincy from Mushfiqur Rahim was good but lacked a bit more aggression when the slog was on.

In the 2nd innings, Andre Fletcher got Khulna Tigers off to a blazing start, scoring 16 runs off the first over and putting the Comilla bowling under pressure. But the very next over from Mustafizur Rahman saw the left-arm seamer take 2 back-to-back wickets to put the same pressure right back on the Khulna batting. Since then, as hard as Khulna Tigers tried, they could never come back in the match. Mushfiqur Rahim fell early, while Sikandar Raza, the hero of the last match for Khulna with the bat, tickled one down leg to the wicket-keeper, getting out unluckily. Soumya Sarkar, the other mainstay of the Khulna batting, tried to accelerate but was out caught at cover off the bowling of eventual Player of the Match Moeen Ali, almost bringing to an end, the rhythm of the batting effort. Thisara Perera was left with too much to do as he perished in the end as well, but not before hitting some sixes.

The Comilla bowling was simply outstanding with every bowler contributing in some way or the other. Mustafizur, Nahidul Islam and Moeen Ali took 2 wickets each, Tanvir Islam chipped in with the last wicket to fall for Khulna, Abu Hider was the pick of the bowlers with 3 important wickets and Sunil Narine went at less than 4-an-over off his 4 overs!

The catching and the captaincy, both were good from Imrul Kayes, as this victory gets registered as the highest in terms of the margin of runs in Bangladesh Premier League history!

The two teams go head-to-head once again tomorrow with Khulna having all to do to get to the play-offs and Comilla, looking for another win to carry the momentum into the play-offs.

POST-MATCH PRESENTATION

Khulna Tigers captain, Mushfiqur Rahim:
I thought they batted really well in the power play but we pulled things back after that. Still, the amount of runs we gave away in the final few overs when Moeen Ali was batting was way too much. We definitely have a lot of areas to improve on and we hope to bring our 'A' game out tomorrow against the same opposition.

Player of the Match, Moeen Ali:
We played well today, I got going today, probably someone else will some other way, so it is a good team effort every match on our part. I kept things simple and things came off well for me. It's good to get as many wins as we can heading into the crucial stages of the tournament.

Comilla Victorians captain, Imrul Kayes:
It's great teamwork as all guys have put their hands up, it was an important game to win, glad that we got that. I believe that with our bowling attack, 170 runs is always good to put on the board as it almost takes the game away from the opposition that bats second.
Comilla Victorians finish off Khulna Tigers and win by 65 runs with 3 balls to spare!

Finally, Tanvir Islam comes into the attack and finally, Thisara Perera takes him to the cleaners for his first six! They needed many more did the Khulna Tigers but they still won't mind the runs coming even at this stage as the net run-rate will definitely be a factor. Another six for Perera comes in the over! A muscular one! 76 to get off 12 balls now. 15 runs came off the over!
