Commentary

Well, that's that from this first of the three match T20I series as West Indies were completely blown away by Rizwan, Haider and Nawaz's blitz with the bat and they had no answers to the smearing yorkers of Wasim, Shadab turned the game on it's head as well. West Indies need to come back stronger with proper plans against this top quality Pakistan side. Babar Azam, Pakistan's captain says, loved the way Rizwan and Haider batted tonight and how they paced the inning tonight. Nawaz too finished will in the end and I'm just pleased things went good with the bat tonight. There was a lot of help from the surface for the spinners, Nawaz and Shadab ensured they make use of that well tonight. We really want to discuss about that and ensure we make use of the bench strength in the tomorrow's game.

Nicholas Pooran, West Indies Skipper says, first of all thanks for the opportunity to lead the team. 200, well, I thought we gave away 20 runs on the field, boundaries went off the edges as well but I did felt like we could've chased the 200 run. I really loved the effort tonight, I don't want to blame the guys but we will come back stronger tomorrow with better plans to execute.

Haider Ali has been adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant Innings (68 off just 39 deliveries)!

Haider Ali says, it was a good opportunity for me and a good platform was set for me to get my eye in as Rizwan was batting well at the other end. I got huge load of confidence with how Rizwan was batting at the other end, I took my time but it paid off later on. We both ensured we targeted particular bowler and then went after them which is why we managed to put up this huge total.

It has been a splendid display of batting and bowling from Pakistan as they go 1-0 up in the series with a convincing win here tonight. First it was, Mohammad Rizwan and Haider Ali's show that took their team to 200 as Mohammad Nawaz's blitz too helped them achieve this massive target. West Indies on the other hand had no answers for the Rizwan and Haider's partnership which proved to be lethal tonight.

West Indies came into the chase and never got the inning going, they lost Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, Devon Thomas in the powerplay. Pooran though looked to be in good touch but then Wasim sends him back for one of the brilliant yorkers we've seen and he's repeated that over and over tonight against Thomas and Shepherd too who finished the inning by picking up the wicket of Oshane Thomas at the end with a four wicket haul.

West Indies didn't show much intent in the first half of the chase. Rovman Powell, Odean Smith and Romario Shepherd all showed promise as they hit some lusty blows but it was never going to be enough as West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals and in the end they fell short of 63 runs and a thumping victory for the hosts and for West Indies, they need to regroup and regroup quickly as their second game of the series coming up tomorrow, not much time left but they have some serious thinking to do with how they go about with the ball and then bat.

That's it, it's all over, 3 yorkers and one back of a length that zips into Thomas to crash into the stumps, that's been the night for Wasim tonight, just plain and simple. Pakistan is the first team to win 18 T20I's in a calendar year breaking their own record! Pakistan go 1-0 up!

18.6 Mohammad Wasim Jr to Oshane Thomas, OUT! CASTLED! FOUR FOR WASIM AND THAT'S THE GAME! Around the wicket and slanting into a length on the off-stump, Thomas has a push forward with stiff feet only for the ball to crash into the off pole and peg it back. This has been some dominance from the hosts - Pakistan win by 63 runs to go 1-0 up in the series!

18.6 Mohammad Wasim Jr to Oshane Thomas, WIDE! Full and shaping into the pads, Thomas makes room for a swing over the leg-side but is comfortably beaten as it slides down to the keeper who fires a throw at the stumps. Thomas grounds his bat on time though.

18.2 Mohammad Wasim Jr to Romario Shepherd, OUT! YORKS HIM AGAIN! Wasim Jr is one to watch out for folks! Right into the base of the off-stump as it tails in very late, Shepherd stands his ground looking to shovel it out through the leg-side. All he can manage is a thick inside edge that crashes into his furniture and West Indies find themselves 9 down now!
