Sweden, on the other hand, will be buzzing after getting a point against the group favorites. One win in their remaining two games should see them secure qualification to the knockout stages, so they'll look back on the 0-0 draw against Spain as an impressive result.  

86% possession and a flurry of chances created over the course of the 90 minutes, but Spain failed to put the ball into the back of the net. Luis Enrique won't be a happy man - La Roja need to step it up in front of goal to become a force to be reckoned with at Euro 2020. 

It wasn't all doom and gloom, though. Spain can take heart from Pedri's eye-catching display, while Gerard Moreno also looked lively after coming on. Maybe the Villarreal striker will replace Alvaro Morata in the starting XI against Poland? Only time will tell. 

Sweden have proved to be a tough nut to crack over the years, but Spain should've won the game considering the chances they created. Much like what was the case in Euro 2016, Robin Olsen came to Sweden's rescue with a magnificent showing between the sticks.

73' The second half has been a bit drab, but Sweden have slowly grown into the game. They'll fancy their chances of getting a point at least, considering the way the game's panned out so far. 

Blimey, that's a double change up front for Sweden but it's a little surprising to see Isak go off. Lively display from the young striker nonetheless, he has a bright future ahead of him!

Alright then, I've got my wish belatedly. Thiago Alcantara is on, interesting to see how he affects the game. Best part of 25 minutes left for the Liverpool man to make an impact.

La Roja have dominated possession, but Sweden have held on for their lives and defended frantically. 

Robin Olsen always brings his A-game at major tournaments, he was magnificent for Sweden in 2016 as well. At club level, though, he's failed to produce the goods consistently. Enigma.

Marcos Llorente has been excellent at right-back once again, his development in the past 18 months has been phenomenal. 

29' Another chance for Koke! The midfielder fails to keep the ball down after getting to the end of a brilliant cross from Dani Olmo.

Another staggering stat - Spain have completed 235 passes as opposed to Sweden's measly 32.

14' Sweden have thwarted everything that's come their way, but they are yet to retain the ball for a prolonged period. All Spain so far at the Estadio de La Cartuja, they're relentless.

Quick note - Barcelona defender Jordi Alba captains Spain today in the absence of Sergio Busquets.

Both teams are out on the pitch. Sweden will do their national anthem first, followed by Spain. We're minutes away from kick-off! 

Lots of pressure on Alvaro Morata heading into Euro 2020. He's coming on the back of a good season with Juventus, but he's got Gerard Moreno waiting patiently on the bench and will need to hit the ground running immediately to retain his place in the team. 

As for Sweden, there's a lot of experience in the squad and they have an impressive talent in Isak, who looks set to lead the line alongside Marcus Berg. 

Spain's have had to reluctactly phase out their golden generation that won three major tournaments in a row, but they still have a lot of quality in their squad. Interesting to see how Marcos Llorente fares at right-back, he was fantastic against Portugal earlier this month and deservedly keeps his place ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta.

With or without Sergio Busquets, Thiago Alcantara is Spain's best midfielder and his exclusion is honestly a bit baffling. Anyway, I'm off for a short snack break before the game. T minus ONE hour to kick-off! 

After Busquets tested positive for COVID-19, the Spanish government vaccinated the entire Spain squad with the Pfizer vaccine. I'm not really sure if what I'm about to say even came into consideration, but the vaccine could have different sides effects for different people. Maybe Thiago's body didn't react well to the jab? Or am I just clutching at straws? 

Thiago Alcantara has been left out of the starting XI for Spain, wow. Didn't see that one coming, as a Liverpool fan I was really looking forward to watching him. Bummer.

As we wait anxiously for the lineups, what a contest it's been in Russia between Poland and Slovakia, particularly in the second half. Slovakia winning could be a massive result to kick-start proceedings in Group E! 

Sweden might be without the enigmatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Alexander Isak is all set to lead the line for Janne Andersson's side. He's one of the most exciting strikers in world football and could emerge as the breakthrough star of Euro 2020. Keep an eye out for him...

Lots of interesting sub-plots to look forward to today. How will Spain fare in Sergio Ramos' absence? Will Aymeric Laporte impress on his competitive debut for La Roya? Unai Simon's inclusion between the sticks is another talking point ahead of the game.

Group E kicks off in about 45 minutes, with Poland taking on Slovakia at the Krestovsky Stadium in Russia. Spain have a vastly superior squad when compared to the rest of the teams in their group, but you can never take anything for granted, especially in tournament football. 

Sweden, too, are set to be without Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg after the duo tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. 

Anyway, back to the Spain v Sweden fixture. Luis Enrique's side had to field the U-21s against Lithuania as the senior squad was forced to isolate after Sergio Busquets tested positive for COVID-19. Diego Llorente also tested positive, but the Leeds United defender has returned to the squad after making a swift recovery.

I see I'm a little late with Schick pun, Gary Lineker seems to have already tweeted something along those lines. Great minds and all 

Scotland must be quite Schick of the game already... Alright I'll see myself out 

I can't be sat here watching football and not talk about Patrik Schick's outrageous goal for the Czech Republic a few minutes ago... I mean we've all seen ridiculous goals over the years, but this one is right up there. Picture perfect.
