AUSTIN, TX – AUGUST 21: Former Formula One driver David Coulthard of Great Britain pilots the Red Bull Show Car through turn eight at Circuit of the Americas race track on August 21, 2011 in Austin, Texas. Couthard and Red Bull F1 are in Austin to promote the U.S. Grand Prix which will be held at the new Circuit of the Americas track in Austin, Texas.

The technical delegate and Race Director of the FIA, Charlie Whiting, visited the Austin Circuit of the Americas for the first time on Tuesday. The inaugural Grand Prix will take place in November.

“It is clear that the significant resources Circuit of The Americas has committed to completing this facility on time and to FIA specifications is making a difference,” Whiting said. “The more than 500 construction workers on site daily are making great progress.”

“I plan to return to Austin at the end of August for an update. My formal pre-race inspection is set for 25 September, which is 60 days before the scheduled start of the Grand Prix weekend.”

“I believe Circuit of The Americas has the ability to put on a great show and spectacular Grand Prix in its inaugural year. I look forward to my next visit in August.”

The last time that America was on the F1 calendar was in 2007, when they hosted an F1 race at Indianapolis. Next season, the country will have two races in New Jersey and Austin.
