Race Review – MotoGP Germany 2012

Dani Pedrosa took the victory in a dramatic German MotoGP race at the Sachsenring. He stayed ahead of a determined Jorge Lorenzo and had eventually opened a gap of nearly fourteen seconds in front of him. Andrea Dovizioso had taken the final podium spot, twenty seconds behind the race leader.

The race started off well for Pedrosa as he took the lead already in turn one with teammate Casey Stoner on his tale. They were followed by Yamaha Factory Racing teammates Lorenzo and Ben Spies while there was only a minor gap between them. Stoner did not wait long to pass his teammate for the lead and many more place-swapping followed. Meanwhile, Dovizioso was struggling with Cal Crutchlow behind them while Nicky Hayden had his own fight going on with Stefan Bradl.

Shortly after, Spies ran wide and let Lorenzo pass into third. This left Stoner and Pedrosa at his mercy while behind them, Michele Pirro was forced to retire with a mechanical issue. Just two laps later another incident occurred as Mattia Pasini crashed out of the race. Meanwhile, Crutchlow and Dovizioso were catching up on Spies, looking for a way to pass him. Eventually only one of them succeeded as Dovizioso made his way through and started his pursuit on the top three. While Crutchlow was past Spies as well for a moment, the Yamaha Factory racer was able to get his position back.

Dovizioso would find himself inside the top three very soon as Stoner crashed out and cleared the way. This did not happen until the final laps and gave Pedrosa the opportunity to take the victory he was battling for throughout the race. Meanwhile, Crutchlow was losing pace and Valentino Rossi was closing up. While the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider was dropping down the order, Rossi passed him and Alvaro Bautista, to start his pursuit on home racer Bradl. He was unable to pass him though and was left in sixth. The top ten was completed by Bautista, Crutchlow, Hector Barbera and Hayden.
