North Queensland sugar giant Sucrogen has extended its deal as exclusive naming rights sponsor of the Sucrogen Townsville 400 V8 Supercars event for a further two years, complementing its renewal with the V8 Supercars Championship as the official fuel supplier and sponsor.

The proud Queensland company has confirmed it is back on board until the end of 2013, ensuring a five-year alliance with V8 Supercars.

Sucrogen’s BioEthanol powers the V8 Supercars on track at every event, with all cars powered by the E85 blend, a blend of 85% ethanol and15% petroleum. It’s high performance blend produces about half the CO2 emissions of one litre of petrol and is fully sustainable, made from molasses which is a by-product of sugar production.

The on-track partnership in Townsville continues off track with Sucrogen once again coming on board to support North Queensland’s largest event each year, in the sugar growing heartland.

“Sucrogen has been an outstanding on and off track partner for V8 Supercars for a long period, delivering great exposure for its brand over the past two years,” V8 Supercars CEO David Malone said.

“This iconic Australian-based company recognises the strength of the V8 Supercar brand which enables it to maximise leverage across a broad range of platforms throughout the sport, at the same time delivering a very important message to consumers about sustainable energy from sugar-derived fuel.

Sucrogen BioEthanol’s Executive General Manager, Garry Mulvay said “We’re very pleased with the support from V8 Supercars. We’re delighted that E85 fuel has been embraced with enthusiasm by all race teams, as it demonstrates that you don’t have to compromise performance to be more sustainable”

The 2012 Sucrogen Townsville 400, running from July 6-8, will be the fourth annual V8 Supercars event in North Queensland, and the Rock’N’Race event will feature round seven of the V8 Supercar Championship and Dunlop series, and rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup, Formula Fords, and Aussie Racing Cars.

The Sucrogen Townsville 400 also features Australian rock greats Jimmy Barnes and Jon Stevens on stage.

V8 Supercars General Manager of Events Kurt Sakzewski welcomed the extended agreement with Sucrogen as a long-time supporter of V8 Supercars and the Sucrogen Townsville 400.

“Sucrogen is a big part of the V8 Supercars family and with this naming rights deal in the heart of sugar growing North Queensland they’re extending that partnership off track.”

“With their backing, and the massive support of the North Queensland community, we’re going to keep delivering a world class motor racing festival in Townsville, for everybody in North Queensland.”

“We’re really proud of the last three Sucrogen Townsville 400s. They’re a great platform for us to build on this year, it’s one of the best family events on our calendar.”
