The tight end from Sandy Utah attended Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, before joining Stanford University for his higher education. Schultz then played football on the Stanford Cardinals football team for the next four years, from 2014 to 2017. In his true freshman year at Stanford, Schultz did not get a chance to play and thus redshirted that year. However, in 2015, he was able to take the field, albeit as a backup in all 14 games. From ten receptions, he had 121 yards and one receiving touchdown.

In his sophomore year, Schultz became the starter and thus got many more playing opportunities. He recorded 23 receptions from 12 games for 222 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. But, more importantly, he performed exceptionally well blocking for his running backs, Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love. His junior year was to be his last year at Stanford before he declared for the NFL Draft. He was used the majority of times as a blocker but still had 22 catches for 212 yards with three touchdowns.

Dalton Schultz's NFL

Schultz’s career in the NFL began with the Dallas Cowboys after the team drafted him in the fourth round with overall pick number 137 in the 2018 NFL Draft. Schultz spent the first five years of his NFL career playing for the Cowboys. Initially given the role of a third-string tight end in 2018, he was promoted to the backup and saw some action after the starter went out injured. In his rookie year, Schultz had 12 receptions for 116 yards but was used predominantly as a blocker for running back Ezekiel Elliott.

The next year he did not get a chance to play much as he was again the third-string tight end. However, from the 2020 season onwards, Schultz started featuring more and more in games and had better production as a result. The 2020 season saw him breakout by recording 615 receiving yards that year. However, 2021 saw him put up career-best numbers across the board: 78 receptions, 808 yards, and 8 touchdowns. In his fifth year of the contract in 2022, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on him and after the season ended, Schultz left to sign with the Houston Texans. Signing a one-year deal with the Texans, Schultz gelled in well with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and went on to rack up 635 yards in the receiving game.
