David Montgomery is an American football running back for the Detroit Lions in the NFL. The Chicago Bears selected Montgomery as their 73rd pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Montgomery recorded 889 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Montgomery was awarded the Brian Piccolo Award twice in 2019 and 2022 respectively. After four seasons and 60 appearances, Montgomery signed a three-year $18 million contract with the Lions, as per Spotrac. Along with rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, the duo became the first pair of running backs to record 1000 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns each. As of Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season, he has amassed 415 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

Montgomery played for Iowa State University from 2016 to 2018. During his freshman season, he recorded 563 rushing yards and two touchdowns, which proved to be the second-best freshman performance in Cyclones' history. During his breakout sophomore season in 2017, Montgomery recorded 104 forced missed tackles, which broke the previous record held by Dalvin Cook with 89. The following season, Montgomery recorded 1216 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, which were second to Alex Barnes and Sam Ehlinger in the Big-12. He also received First-team All-Big-12 and Second-team All-Big-12 in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
