Derek Carr, an American professional football player, was born on March 28, 1991. He was born in Bakersfield, California. He plays the position of a quarterback in the NFL. The 2023-24 season would mark Carr’s 10th season in the league.


In 2014, Carr was selected as the 36th pick in the 2nd round of the NFL draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. Displaying potential and the ability to lead, Carr assumed the role of the starting quarterback in his rookie season. In his rookie season, Carr amassed 3,270 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. In the following season, Carr’s performance earned him a spot as quarterback in the Pro Bowl, as a replacement for Aaron Rodgers.


Carr’s career trajectory trended upward post his sophomore season in the NFL. In 2016, he led the Raiders to an appearance in the playoffs, marking the franchise’s first appearance in the playoffs since 2002. He led them to the playoffs for a second time in 2021.


By the conclusion of his tenure with the Raiders, Carr led the franchise in passing yards, passing touchdowns and pass completions, ensuring that his name was present in several categories in the Raiders’ history.

As of 2023, Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders have parted ways. Towards the end of the 2022-23 season, Carr began to show signs of subpar and inconsistent performance as a result of which he was made a substitute quarterback for the Raiders. Carr and the Raiders came to an agreement to release him from the team at the end of the season.


Following his exit from the Raiders, Carr signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints. The deal is worth $150 million over a period of 4 years. Of the $150 million, $100 million constitutes the total guaranteed salary that Carr can earn. The contract involves a signing bonus of $28.5 million and an average salary of $37.5 million per year.


The 2023-24 season would give Carr the opportunity to further his career with a new team, showing everyone that he is still a high-caliber quarterback. It will be interesting to see what the Saints and Carr can accomplish in the upcoming season of the NFL.
