The case of Kyler Murray is not that of your typical NFL player. That is because Murray as an athlete has reached the highest level in two professional sports; football and baseball. Since his high school days, Murray has been a dual sport athlete who excelled in both. As a result of which, he was even selected by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
However, in the same year, Murray had a remarkable college football season as he led the entire Big 12 conference in passing yards with 4,361 and 42 passing touchdowns. He also set a Big 12 record in passer rating with an incredible 199.2. These numbers and his overall play earned him the Heisman Trophy thanks to which he decided to not play in the MLB. Entering the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray was selected as the number one overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals.
Since joining the Cardinals in 2019, Murray played in and started all 16 games during his first two years although his best result in year two was a record of 8-8. In 2021, Murray missed a couple of games due to an ankle injury before which he and the Cardinals were the best team in the league with a 7-0 start. Despite missing few games in 2021, Murray still led Cardinals to the playoffs. 2022 had been Murray’s worst year when looking at QB rating (87.2) in the league and he also suffered an injury late in the season which added to his woes.

Kyler Murray’s career so far
Kyler Murray has set various records for the Arizona Cardinals till date with most of them coming during his rookie season. However, his individual success has not led to team success as the Cardinals have only made it to the postseason once in Murray era.
Since 2022, his numbers have fallen off in every offensive metric. Some of it has been due to injury but even before that his yards per attempt, TD:INT ratio and completion percentage were sliding down compared to his 2020 and 2021 season. However, with a fully healthy 2024 offseason and 2nd year in HC Jonathan Gannon’s system, all signs point to Kyler’s resurgence in the upcoming season.
