Rob Gronkowski Rings

Last Modified Jul 11, 2023 07:15 GMT

Robert James Gronkowski was born on May 14th, 1989, in Amherst, New York. He is a tight end in the NFL.

He was a New England Patriot for nine years before moving to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is a four-time Super Bowl champion (XLIX, LI, LIII, LV), a five-time Pro Bowl selection, a four-time First Team All-Pro selection, and was selected in the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team and NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Gronkowski enjoyed a stellar career at the University of Arizona that saw him being named a Freshman All-American. Due to his play, the Patriots drafted Gronk in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 42nd pick.

Notable for being a skilled receiver and talented blocker, Gronkowski has set several NFL records, including being the first player in his position to lead the league in receiving touchdowns (17 in 2011). He also has the most career postseason receiving yards by a tight end (1,163) – the only tight end in NFL history to reach 1,000 or more yards in the playoffs. He has the most career postseason receiving touchdowns for his position with 14 to date, as well as the most combined receptions (23) and receiving yards (297) by a tight end in Super Bowl history. He is ranked first in average receiving yards per game (68.3), average yards per target (9.9), and average touchdowns per game (0.69) among tight ends.

In April 2020, Rob was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he stayed for a few years before retiring.

How many Super Bowls did Rob Gronkowski win?

In his 12-year career, Rob Gronkowski won 4 Super Bowls. All 4 of them saw his run with the same Quarterback, Tom Brady. The first three came with the New England Patriots in 2014,2016, and 2018, all under head coach Bill Belichick.

Gronk kept his streak of alternate Super Bowl victories going with a fourth Super Bowl in 2020, this time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Super Bowl XLIX - Seattle Seahawks (2014)

Gronkowski returned from an ACL and MCL tear and took time to get accumulated back into the system. The Patriots, on their part, took their team working Rob back to full speed, and the effort paid off. He finished the season strong as the Patriots ended 12-4 as AFC East winners. Gronk was named to his third Pro Bowl and even made First-Team All-Pro.

However, his real impact came in the Super Bowl. In a closely contested effort, Gronkowski was excellent, recording 6 receptions for 68 yards and a critical touchdown late in the second quarter.

Super Bowl LI - Atlanta Falcons (2016)

Unfortunately, in his second Super Bowl victory, Gronk spent the game on the sidelines. He suffered a pulmonary contusion, initially thought to be a punctured lung, in Week 11 that kept him out of the game. Regardless, the Patriots persevered and won their second Super Bowl in three years against the Atlanta Falcons, 34-28.

Super Bowl LIII - Los Angeles Rams (2018)

The next time around, Gronkowski more than made up for his previous absence. Rob was solid throughout the season as the Patriots finished as the #2 seed in the AFC. However, in the playoffs, especially the Super Bowl, Gronk lit it up.

During the Super Bowl, he finished with 87 receiving yards as the Patriots won 13-3. During the match, he set the record for catches and yards for a tight end in Super Bowls at 23 catches and 297 yards. But, the biggest moment of the game also involved him.

In the fourth quarter, with the score tied at 3, Gronkowski had a critical 29-yard catch from Brady that took New England to the two-yard line, thereby setting up the game’s only touchdown.

Super Bowl LV - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020)

After an unceremonious retirement in 2019, Gronkowski returned to the league in 2020. Traded to the Buccaneers, Robert continued his association with the GOAT.

The Brady and Gronk connection was in full effect throughout the season. As the season moved along, the Bucs looked more threatening with each passing week. After a critical fourth-quarter catch in the NFC Championship Game, the duo was back in the Super Bowl.

In a 31-9 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs, Rob caught two of the three touchdown passes thrown by Brady. In the process, the two gained sole possession of the record for most touchdowns between a quarterback-receiver pair, with 14. They were previously tied with Joe Montana and Jerry Rice at 12. Gronk also became the first player in NFL history to catch a pass in five different Super Bowls.

How many Super Bowls did Rob Gronkowski go to?

Along with the 4 Super Bowl victories between 2014 and 2020, Gronkowski reached the final game of the season two more times. He made his Super Bowl debut in 2011 against the New York Giants in a 21-17 losing effort. However, Gronkowski wasn’t a large factor in the game. However, a failed Hail Mary attempt from Brady could have been the decider, but Rob’s dive came up short. He finished the game with just two receptions for 26 yards.

In the second of three straight Super Bowl appearances, the Patriots ended up on the losing side again, in 2017. Again, it was a failed Hail Mary that became the final story. As the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 33-41, the Hail Mary might have given us a different outcome. However, unlike the previous loss, Gronk was sensational, finishing with 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
