The stadium site was previously part of Hollywood Park which was a racecourse present from 1938. The complex was demolished with the intention of reconstructing, adding the Hollywood Park Casino. In fact, in 1995, the site was set to be home to the Los Angeles Raiders once the Rams decided to move to St. Louis.

However, the owner of the Raiders refused the deal due to the fact that the team would have to share the stadium with another team. In 2015, the owners of the Hollywood Park Land Company announced that a multipurpose venue stadium would be developed for the NFL in partnership with Kroenke Sports and Entertainment. Eventually, the Inglewood Council approved the plan and cleared the way for the construction to begin.

With an estimated cost of $5 billion, it is estimated to be one of the most expensive stadiums to ever be built. Some of its standout features include a 4K video board, a translucent roof to allow for controlled lighting and lastly, a 120-yard Oculus video board.
