Those of us who were lucky enough to witness the early 2000s do not need any reminder of what the 2004 quarterback class gave the football world. Three superstar quarterbacks out of which one was the starting signal caller of the Pittsburgh Steelers for close to eighteen seasons, Ben Roethlisberger.

‘Big Ben’ as he is affectionately known due to his overall size and height, was one of the greats of the game. The Steelers have a ton of history in the NFL, and they have had some extraordinary players that have guided their teams to glory for a sustained period of time. One cannot talk about the Steelers history now without mentioning Roethlisberger with the likes of Terry Bradshaw, Joe Greene, Troy Polamalu, and many more legendary players. With that said, curiosity begs to ask the question of what Big Ben is doing these days?

Ben Roethlisberger’s current affairs

Football playing days might be over now for Roethlisberger, but he knows very well that he can still be a part of the sport in some way or the other. In that sense, the former Steelers starting signal caller decided that he will start a podcast called ‘Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger’. This podcast can be found on the Youtube handle ‘Channel Seven’.

A fun element of the podcast lies in the spelling of the name Footbahlin which is a tribute to the native Pittsburgh accent. According to Ben himself, the podcast will be revolving around two of his favorite things in life which are football and craft beer. The podcast features a two-fold agenda as it will be hosting guests each week and the former quarterback will also discuss the ins and outs of the game.

Moreover, the entire podcast has such a homely feel about it probably due to the fact that Ben and his colleague Spencer shoot the entire episode in the basement of Ben’s house. At times there are football games, college games going on in the background and the entire environment just gives out a homely vibe per se.

A unique take of the show actually involves sampling beers while on air. The show according to Ben and Spencer got its inspiration from ‘The Alabama Boss’ which is known for a similar thing. The whole idea of the show is basically to have fun and learn some interesting facts along the way.

Ben Roethlisberger in the NFL

Prior to his retirement and laid back life which he is currently enjoying, Roethlisberger went through the grind on a daily basis for more than two decades if we consider his college days. Big Ben was born in Lima, Ohio and went to Miami University in Ohio where he spent four years redshirting his first one. However, in his next three years he put up some fascinating performances and incredible numbers reaching 10,829 passing yards and had 80 passing touchdowns.

When the NFL came calling, he became the immediate starting quarterback for the Steelers and set an NFL record of 13-0 in his 13 starts as a rookie. This record still stands the test of time. His first few seasons in the league were extremely successful as he won two Super Bowls in four years and managed to reach a third one just a couple of years later.

Unfortunately though, the rest of his career albeit with great regular seasons, failed to deliver another championship to the city. In spite of all the good runs he had in his career, some major silverware missing from his trophy cabinet includes the NFL MVP and the Super Bowl MVP. Aside from that, he did win the Offensive Rookie of the Year and was a two time NFL passing yards leader, and a six time Pro Bowl candidate.

With a career spanning such a long time, he remained loyal to the franchise and its fan base thus receiving a lot of love and respect in return. Roethlisberger was a player who played the game the right way and ensured that his legacy would remain forever intact. There is little doubt that when the time comes, Big Ben will see his name in Canton, Ohio as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
