Samantha Stosur, the eventual champion and Maria Kirilenko found themselves tussling for the second set in a never ending tiebreak in the night session. The US open crowd cheered after every point as both players engaged in gruelling baseline rallies. It was however Kirilenko who held on as Stosur erred at 15-16to give the tiebreak and the set to the former. This was the longest women's tiebreak played in a grandslam.
