Adam Cole has been a mainstay on NXT for a number of years. It is now being reported that his time on the black-and-gold brand is coming to an end, with his contract expiring imminently.

Cole has had an illustrious run on Triple H's brand, winning the NXT Championship once and winning numerous NXT year-end awards. He was also the inaugural NXT North American Champion. He also became the NXT Tag Team Champion with his Undisputed Era members.

Now with Adam Cole set to leave WWE and head for pastures new, let's take a look at four reasons why Adam Cole shouldn't stay with WWE.

#3 Job Security in WWE may affect Adam Cole

There have been a lot of high profile and surprising releases from WWE recently. Names such as Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt have been let go due to budget cuts. Many mid-card superstars have also seen their contracts ended by WWE.

WWE, like many companies around the world, are still feeling the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. WWE has been making swift decisions to make sure they are in good shape for the next few years. Some have speculated that recent cuts have been made to pay for the returns of 'bigger' names such as Goldberg and John Cena.

Sadly, with any talent working for WWE, they are replaceable, and that could be said for someone like Adam Cole. Cole is currently performing on NXT, but what is to say in a few months WWE decides it's Cole's turn to be shown the pink slip?

From looking in from the outside, it seems a bit of a chaotic time in WWE behind-the-scenes. The amount of releases and talent seemingly not knowing what is around the corner must be disheartening.

Performing to the best of your ability may not be enough to remain under WWE contract for much longer. Just take Bray Wyatt as a prime example who has reinvented himself multiple times over.

Bayley recently told Metro about the recent releases in WWE:

"For me, the past few have been really hard because most of them are really good friends and so talented, and I’m just like, “What?! It’s really hard not to see certain ones in our locker room and share travelling the road together." Bayley said (h/t Metro)

Elsewhere at AEW, job security seemingly seems much better than at WWE. It also appears they've fostered a great locker room atmosphere. When comparing the two, there's only one place you'd rather be, without walking on eggshells wondering if your time was coming to an end.

#2 Huge opportunity for Adam Cole elsewhere

Outside of Adam Cole and NXT, it is fair to say that right now wrestling is once again booming. From AEW challenging WWE, to IMPACT Wrestling showing that they're stronger than ever, to Warrior Wrestling showing how it is done on the independents.

There is a huge wrestling world outside of WWE, and Adam Cole has been in that world before. Cole would have an enormous opportunity to once again make himself a name outside of WWE.

Of course, he could still remain in the mainstream by signing for All Elite Wrestling. AEW has welcomed many talents who were surplus to requirements for WWE or become disgruntled, and those on the independents who have deserved a bigger platform.

Adam Cole spoke with RondaRousey.com about working with different wrestlers:

"I love performing with people I’ve never worked with before. Because everybody’s different. Everybody performs different and thinks a little bit different. So, selfishly, it just improves your skillset to compete against a bunch of different people who all have different outlooks and perspectives on the way things are and the way things go. It just makes you a more well-rounded performer, especially when it’s someone I watch and I’m entertained by or think they’re really talented and I’ve never worked with them before." From that quote, Adam Cole would have a plethora of talent to work with, which he hasn't crossed paths with before. This could be a hugely motivating factor in wanting to be out of WWE following SummerSlam weekend.

#2 Adam Cole may be treated differently on the main roster

Adam Cole has done it all in NXT, and there's nothing really left for him to do on the brand. Cole has been a part of the NXT journey since 2017, and that has seen him achieve many accolades.

Moving to the main roster is a completely different story. Just ask someone like Aleister Black. Recent NXT stars coming up to the roster have been treated much differently than in NXT. They are usually brought up without any real plan, and sometimes their gimmick on NXT doesn't quite get over with the WWE Universe.

Aleister Black, now Malakai Black on AEW, spoke with Comic Book about why he thinks so many NXT call-ups struggle on the main roster:

"I think one of the main issues is that there [are] too many cooks in the kitchen. Whereas Hunter [Triple H] has a vision and oversees the entire vision with his team. He always puts his ear to the ground and he communicates very one-on-one with his talent and everybody shares his vision. Where I feel the main roster a lot of people think that they know Vince's [McMahon's] vision, they haven't closely followed the people that are being brought up." Aleister Black said (h/t Comic Book)

Moving to the main roster might not be the right move for Adam Cole, who may just become another wrestler. Of course, he's an incredible performer, but the environment on the main roster is very different. I guess now we may not find out how Adam Cole would fare on the main roster.
