4 Possible reasons why Vince McMahon doesn’t want Bray Wyatt to lose his matches via pinfall

Will The Fiend lose to Brock Lesnar eventually?

Ever since Bray Wyatt returned to WWE as The Fiend, he has become the hottest thing in all of the company. He wrestled Finn Balor at SummerSlam and after taking the victory, became the most feared wrestler in WWE, after possibly only The Undertaker. At Crown Jewel, he defeated Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship and brought the title to the Blue Brand. Here, he changed the belt’s color to blue from red to match the brand’s theme.

According to a Wrestling News Co’s Paul Davis, Vince McMahon doesn’t want Bray Wyatt to lose his matches via pinfall for a long time. What could be the possible reason? Wyatt has already lost a few matches (including live events) but none of his losses were from taking a pinfall, and it was mostly from disqualifications. In this article, we will talk about 4 reasons that could be behind Vince’s decision of protecting Wyatt by not letting him lose via pinfalls.

#4 Bray Wyatt is the hottest thing in WWE

The WWE Universe adores Bray Wyatt’s character. They enjoy the Firefly Fun House segments where Wyatt seems like a harmless person and The Fiend who wants to take revenge from everyone that came (or will come) to his path.

WWE has invested so much of their time in building Wyatt’s character that they can’t afford to have him lose matches via pinfall yet. He’s apparently the hottest thing in WWE, after possibly Becky Lynch, and that's close. The fans are loving the act. As a top guy, he’s expected to stay undefeated (via pinfall, in this case) for some time, and that could be for months.

What matters at this moment is that WWE manages to protect Wyatt’s character at any cost, even if it means to eliminate pinfall losses entirely in his matches.

#3 Vince McMahon sees him as the face of SmackDown

Brock Lesnar is no longer on SmackDown, which makes Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt the biggest Superstars present on the brand. We know that WWE is not pushing Reigns to the main event scene as they are playing safe. If they push too hard with The Big Dog, it could turn off the fans once again. However, the opposite could be said for Bray Wyatt.

The fans like him and they want him to destroy anyone that comes to his path. With such a strong fanbase behind him, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Wyatt can become the face of SmackDown. Or has he already? The Fiend is the Universal Champion and is definitely the most protected Superstar on the brand.

If he loses any of his matches via pinfall, he’ll also lose his title, unless it’s in a non-title match. Still then, it’d at the very least hurt his character in WWE. Vince would want to avoid that happening because that could severely hurt Wyatt’s momentum.

#2 It would be too early

The Fiend’s reign of terror has just begun and it would be too early to have him lose via pinfall. WWE needs to book him as strongly as they possibly can because (1) the fans are behind him, and (2) his character is built around terrorizing other wrestlers.

Vince McMahon reportedly really likes The Fiend’s gimmick and he probably wants to take it to its full potential. A few years ago, WWE made a mistake when they give up on Bray Wyatt too soon, and he was never able to rise up again. But this time, Vince would want to avoid repeating the same thing.

Take Ronda Rousey for instance. She joined the company in 2018 and was never pinned until WrestleMania 36. Most fans didn’t criticize WWE for not booking her to lose her matches because it would’ve been too early for someone being bult up like her to be defeated. The same is the case with Wyatt. Vince probably wants to protect his pinfall loss for the right moment.

#1 It’s being saved for the ‘super guy’

Recently, Dave Meltzer discussed why WWE went ahead with Brock Lesnar vs Rey Mysterio when they could have booked a triple threat match between Lesnar, The Fiend, and Adam Cole at Survivor Series. Apparently, WWE felt the story between Lesnar and Mysterio is much stronger and it was the right match to book for the show.

Then, he also stated that Wyatt is being protected for some time because WWE could be saving him for the ‘super guy’ and that is probably Brock Lesnar.

"Plus, right now, Wyatt should be kept apart completely from Lesnar for a long time. With the push they are giving Wyatt, they need to protect him for the super guy, and that’s Lesnar, not Reigns, although those would be the two key programs."

These two Superstars could have a match at WrestleMania 36 next year and that could be where The Fiend could lose his first match via pinfall. It’s possible because Lesnar has already done these types of things (such as breaking The Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak) in the company before as well, and he certainly has the capacity to do it again.
