The 2019 WWE King of the Ring tournament has concluded, and much to the dismay of many WWE fans, Baron Corbin won the revived tournament and is now the reigning king of WWE.

Traditionally, the King of the Ring tournament is used to take a midcard talent and push him to the next level in WWE, and if past reports are to be believed, the tournament was brought back in order to push the winner significantly, so it appears as if Corbin is on his way back up the ladder in WWE.

Corbin took a brief hiatus from WWE TV after his Extreme Rules Tag Team Universal title match loss, but he has returned in full force, and is looking to re-establish himself as a top heel on Raw and/or SmackDown when the blue brand moves to FOX Sports next month.

Given the above, let's look at five mistakes WWE must avoid with Baron Corbin as King of the Ring.

#5 Ditch the traditional "King" routine

The WWE King of the Ring tournament and concept has always been an idea beloved by many WWE fans, and the tournament has produced megastars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin.

In recent years, however, the typical "King" gimmick and character has grown tiresome, as each tournament winner tends to play the role in the same way, adopting a "court" and presiding over his "kingdom."

Booker T was able to add tremendous hilarity to the King gimmick by using an over-the-top fake British accent and King-like mannerisms, but it's time for WWE to ditch the traditional King character.

WWE should avoid the idea of King Corbin taking on a real "King" persona, and should instead focus on having Corbin make it clear that he is determined to win the company's top Championships following his tournament win.

#4 Do not have Corbin defeat weeks worth of jobbers

It looks like King Corbin's first feud following his King of the Ring win will be against Chad Gable, who Corbin defeated in the finals of the tournament.

The feud idea is a very smart one, as it keeps Gable's momentum and relevancy moving forward after his very impressive and unexpected run in the tournament this year.

One idea WWE should avoid is to have Baron Corbin run through weeks and weeks of jobbers in order to establish him as WWE's new King of the Ring.

WWE tends to utilize squash matches with jobbers as a way of getting over big heels in the company, but we just watched Corbin face some of the best talent in WWE during the course of the King of the Ring tournament, so useless wins over jobbers will do nothing to enhance Corbin's position in WWE.

As much as Baron Corbin has been hated by WWE fans in the past year or so, his in-ring work has improved considerably in 2019, and WWE should continue to build on Corbin's skills in the ring to help solidify the big man as a legit in-ring competitor.

#3 Do not have Corbin bury Chad Gable in a possible upcoming feud

The intention of the WWE King of the Ring tournament is to boost the star power of the tournament winner, but because the company did such a great job booking this year's tournament, the opportunity exists to create not one big star in Baron Corbin, but a second big star in Chad Gable.

Gable was the ultimate underdog in the tournament this year but utilized his incredible in-ring abilities to impress fans and advance all the way to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament.

With Baron Corbin's first post-KOTR feud looking to be with Chad Gable, WWE needs to avoid making the mistake of having Corbin bury Gable.

The King of the Ring finals match featured great back-and-forth action, which should allow for Gable and Corbin to have really competitive matches during the course of their feud.

It might even be a good idea to have Chad Gable come out of the feud on top, as Baron Corbin will remain a hated heel, which has been the goal, and WWE could build a star on the rise with Gable finally defeating the King of the Ring.

#2 Do not race Corbin back into the WWE or Universal title picture

As mentioned, the winner of the WWE King of the Ring tournament is usually catapulted to the top of his brand, and in line for a top title match, but given the past few months of WWE TV storylines, it makes more sense for WWE to delay Baron Corbin's first title shot.

With WWE SmackDown Live moving to FOX Sports in October, and the roster draft set to take place on October 11th, Baron Corbin's home brand will be made clear in the coming weeks, and until that happens, Corbin should work a long feud with someone like Chad Gable.

Throughout the summer, Baron Corbin was pushed as one of the top contenders to Seth Rollins' Universal title, and the feud culminated in Corbin receiving a Universal title shot in the form of a tag team match at Extreme Rules in which Becky Lynch's WWE Raw Women's title was also on the line.

With the memory of the Rollins, Corbin, Lynch and Lacey Evans feud still relatively fresh, it's a good idea to keep Baron Corbin away from the WWE or Universal titles until the company can rebuild him as a major title contender who needs a title shot.

#1 Do not spread Corbin out across both brands

There are a few weeks left until WWE SmackDown Live moves to FOX Sports and WWE holds a roster draft on October 11th in order to rid itself of the Wildcard Rule and re-establish the brand split in the company.

Baron Corbin is on a major hot streak in WWE right now coming off a big King of the Ring tournament win, but WWE needs to be careful not to overexpose Corbin to the fans otherwise the company could run the risk of fans completely burning out on Corbin and rejecting him entirely.

There is much debate amongst WWE fans as to what kind of heat Baron Corbin draws, with some fans feeling he draws legit heat and others feeling he draws "go away" heat. Either way, Corbin does elicit a reaction from fans, and if he is overused on WWE TV following his King of the Ring win, WWE runs the risk of the fans simply tuning Corbin out altogether.
