The United Kingdom wrestling scene is one of the richest professional wrestling markets in the world. The interest is high and with several promotions trying to take advantage of the interest, as well as WWE lurking around the corner with NXT UK, there has never been a better time to be wrestling in the UK.

Sierra Loxton is one of the most well known Independent women's wrestlers currently in the United Kingdom. Having started her career as a wrestler in 2016, she has advanced leaps and bounds and made her mark on the industry.

I had the amazing opportunity to ask her a few questions.

Who is Sierra Loxton?

When asked to introduce herself to fans who may not be familiar with her, she talked about herself.

"I’m Sierra Loxton, also known as 'The Freaky Princess'. I’m 21 years old, from South Wales, UK. I've wrestled all over the UK for the top promotions and even in Europe."

One of the things that makes Sierra Loxton so distinctive is her incredible strength.

In her last match at Pro Wrestling EVE, Sierra Loxton, unfortunately, suffered a horrifying back injury for which she needed surgery. When asked about how she was dealing with her injury at the moment, she only had positive things to say.

"Recovery is going very well, thanks for asking. I get days where I’m in a lot more pain than usual, but other than that it’s going good. Physio has really been helping too."

One of the people who has helped her during the most difficult time in her career so far is Referee Chris Roberts. When she suffered the injury, Referee Chris Roberts was the one to set up a GoFundMe to help her deal with the expenses that came with the back surgery and treatment she needed to get better.

"Referee Chris Roberts is just incredible. I was so grateful that he had set up a GoFundMe, as it was stressful not knowing what would happen in the future. He’s one of my best friends and he’s truly an angel, I love him very much."

Beginning her wrestling journey

When asked about how she started in the world of wrestling, much like many others, her journey started by watching WWE being broadcast on a regular basis. The man who was responsible for introducing her to wrestling was her grandfather, however, it was Jimmy Havoc who eventually inspired her to be a part of the wrestling world.

"So, I was about 13 when I first saw wrestling. It was WWE Superstars. My grandad would put it on every Sunday on the sky channel. I didn’t like it much and used to hate it when it came on. The more I watched it, It grew on me but I never had an interest. One night I was on YouTube and I came across a progress match, Jimmy Havoc vs. Prince Devitt (Finn Balor). I was in awe after seeing Jimmy Havoc and that’s when I knew I wanted to be a part of this. I googled wrestling training schools in Wales and I came across Dragon Pro Wrestling. I started wrestling training the same week at the age of 15."

When asked what her favorite moment in her 3-year career of wrestling was, she confessed she had enjoyed her entire wrestling journey to this point.

"I think this whole wrestling journey has been my favorite. Each show is different and watching people grow into amazing wrestlers. I think it’s all very special."

Facing past and present WWE Superstars and the UK Independent Scene

During her time in the Independent Scene, Sierra Loxton has been in the ring with several top quality Superstars, some of whom had retired from WWE, while others have gone on to wrestle in the company -- Melina, Tennille Dashwood (Emma), Jinny, Kay Lee Ray, and Viper (Piper Niven). When asked about her experience with these women, Sierra had this to say.

"All of these women are amazing and lovely. We’ve always had amazing matches and always have a laugh backstage. Kay Lee Ray was my 3rd ever match and I remember being so nervous to meet her but she’s always been lovely and caring, from day one. I’ve tagged with Melina at Pro Wrestling Chaos and we got on really well. I was also worried about meeting her as I’ve watched her on TV and didn’t know her, but she’s been lovely and we still chat to this day. These girls are just all amazing and I have so many memories with them that I cherish. Jinny is my queen always and Viper is the loveliest person inside and out. I’m truly lucky to have these ladies in my life to help and guide me."

Sierra Loxton is known for finishing off her opponents with a running hip attack.

When asked about the UK independent scenes and the rumors that NXT UK was hurting independent promotions, she said that was not true at all. She insisted that the UK scene was currently better than ever.

"I don’t believe anything can affect the U.K. independent scene. British wrestling has some of the best wrestlers in the world. I think fans forget that wrestling has been around for years and there are so many wrestlers around the U.K. Every independent wrestling show is being sold out week after week, within minutes. The Indy scene isn’t going anywhere."

Wrestling for WWE and AEW

Sierra Loxton admitted that when she first started in the industry, she wanted to wrestle for WWE. However, her outlook has changed since then.

"When I started out I wanted nothing more than to wrestle for WWE. But I’m happy with where I’m at and being a performer for the Indies. I believe everything happens for a reason and if it’s meant to be it’ll be."

Talking about the emergence of All Elite Wrestling and going to AEW in the future, she had this to say.

"It would be so cool to wrestle out of Europe. AEW is going really well and I hope it keeps doing amazing. At the moment, I’m focusing on recovery so wrestling or anyone isn’t in my mind. I want to get better and healthy before returning. At the moment, I need to wait to see what the consultant says before making any decisions.

For her fans, Sierra Loxton had a message.

"Just thank you for following me on my journey and being so kind. It’s very humbling and I’m grateful."
