WWE Rumors: It's a matter of time before Matt and Jeff Hardy return to WWE

Matt and Jeff Hardy in TNA

What’s the story?

In a new report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Matt and Jeff Hardy are both on their way back to the WWE. Apparently, it’s just a matter of when and not if.

The Background

Ever since the Hardys left Impact Wrestling, there has been rampant speculation about their next destination.

After spending numerous years in the WWE’s Tag-Team division, the brothers embarked on singles runs with varying degrees of success. They also enjoyed very good careers outside of WWE.

Jeff rose to instant stardom in Impact Wrestling. It took Matt a few more years, but he is now one of the most popular wrestlers on the planet. Wrestling fans chant “DELETE” even when they aren’t at his shows.

The heart of the matter

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s only a matter of time before the Hardy Boys return to the WWE.

The Hardys are coming to WWE, and soon. The only question is what day and what brand. One would think Smackdown is the brand that needs the most help in the tag team division. As far as the Broken gimmick, Matt is claiming ownership of it. Impact’s case was at least strong enough for ROH to state that the Hardys will not be doing the gimmick on their iPPV show the night before WrestleMania.

What’s next?

The only thing that could hold up the return of the Hardys is Impact Wrestling's claim that they own the rights to the Broken characters; in fact, Ring of Honor will not allow the Hardys to use the gimmick on their Supercard of Honor show.

Author’s Take

There’s nothing bad about this entire scenario. WWE needs the Hardys, and vice-versa. WrestleMania is shaping up to be a very mediocre show. The matches aren’t interesting, and the main event isn’t exciting the majority of the WWE Universe. Adding Matt and Jeff to the event would be a huge surprise, and it would give WrestleMania a much-needed shot in the arm.
