Moneyball9 Fantasy Tips: 5 players you should not pick in the playoffs

The Indian Premier League 2016 saw an interesting finish to the league stage as Gujarat Lions, Royal challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders qualify for the playoffs. In a rather surprising turn of events, RCB won their last four matches to finish in the top 2, hence earning the chance to play in the Qualifier 1 along with Gujarat Lions.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, who looked certain to finish in the top 2, managed to slip up their hold at the top and will now face each other in the eliminator. Along with the tournament, the fantasy league is also heating up as all the top players will now step up their game to help their team through to the final of the IPL.

However, there are few players who might not be the best option for your fantasy teams, even though they are almost certain to start in the playing XI and cost considerably less than the top players. Here’s a list of those five players you should not pick in the playoffs.

Varun Aaron

The Royal Challengers Bangalore seamer has had a poor outing this time around in the tournament. The 26-year-old has played 8 matches and has picked up only 2 wickets and has gifted runs to the opposition with an economy of 9.59. Also, his only two wickets came in a single match against Mumbai Indians. The fact that the Qualifier 1 will be played at the Chinnaswamy in Bangalore, which is a batting paradise, makes him a strict no-no for the fantasy teams.

Stuart Binny

The RCB all-rounder has surprisingly played 12 matches this season, but his contribution has been 33 runs with bat and 1 wicket with the ball. Though he cannot be held responsible for all of it, as he generally comes in to bat at number 6 and has not completed his quota of 4 overs in any of the matches. In all probability, the trend will continue as the RCB top order does the majority of scoring and also the form of bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal and Shane Watson means that again, he won’t be bowling his full quota of overs.

Chris Jordan

Jordan was brought in the RCB team to replace probably one of the best bowlers in the game, Mitchell Starc. However, he has not been nearly as good as the one he came on to replace. Though he has picked up 6 wickets in the 7 matches he has played, he has a poor economy of 9.35. Moreover, 4 of his wickets came in a single match against Gujarat Lions in Bangalore, where Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers had already powered the home team to 248 in the first innings. Therefore, it will be wise to not pick the RCB bowler in your squad.

Karn Sharma

The Sunrisers Hyderabad left-arm leg-spinner has been in dismal form this season. He has played only five matches this season and has not picked up a single wicket. The 28-year-old has leaked runs at an economy of 10.46 which is not at all acceptable. Also, given the fact that he will be up against KKR, who have plenty of batsmen who are good against spin, so, picking him in your fantasy teams will be a big big risk.

Umesh Yadav

The Kolkata Knight Riders bowler started the IPL well but lost his way midway through the tournament. He has played a total of 9 matches in this edition, picking up 10 wickets in the process. However, these stats don’t tell the whole story as he will be up against the likes of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan at the top, who are in great form. Moreover, he has been fairly costly, giving away runs at an economy of 9 and picking him in your squad is not at all advisable.
