Moneyball9 Fantasy Tips: 5 all-rounders to look forward to in the playoffs

Andre Russell

All-rounders are always the key in any format. Especially in T20 cricket, the demand for all-rounders is always high as they tend to change the game with both bat and ball as Andre Russell demonstrated this season. The same applies for fantasy as well since the all-rounder can fetch you plenty of points. A couple of things to notice here though – you can choose only one all-rounder per game, so you need to make a wise choice. And secondly, players like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Smith etc are classified as batsmen in our fantasy. So what are the options available for the playoffs? Here’s an analysis:

Andre Russell

The tournament needs Andre Russell. Let’s hope he is fit and raring to go in the playoffs. He is among the costliest players in the fantasy but you should pick him without blinking an eye as he can win games with both bat and ball. He is the sixth highest wicket-taker in the tournament despite missing a couple of games.

With the bat he may have scored just 188 runs but he also batted way down the order on most occasions and came up with useful cameos. His strike rate of 164 is another aspect to take note of. If fit and ready, Russell should make the cut, that’s a no brainer!

Early on in the season, Shakib was in and out of the side but in the last few games the management retained the faith in him and he has once again become a vital cog in the line-up. He has this knack of rescuing the Knight Riders when the top order fails to deliver as she showed that day against the Lions.

He can also send down those economical spells with the ball. He will cost you a bit of money but he is worth it especially on slowish surfaces where he can also fetch a few wickets.

Dwayne Bravo

The West Indian all-rounder hasn’t been at his best with the bat for a while now as he has been focusing more on his bowling. But if needed he can bring out those lusty hits in the end but irrespective of that, he bowls at the death and provides you loads of points with wickets.

He has also went for a few in this tournament but expect him to step up on the big stage when they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Only issue would be his price tag though. If you are going ahead with him, you will have to sacrifice another big name since he costs 10,000 rupees. But this is where the game is won/lost.

Shane Watson

It’s no secret that Shane Watson’s wicket taking abilities have fizzled out a bit after the first phase. He still has 16 wickets to his name though which is massive for someone who bats in the top four. He remains a potent weapon with both bat and ball. With RCB’s top order firing almost every game, you just sense that a failure is around the corner and that is where you need Watson’s services.

He will cost you 9500 rupees which will prompt you to drop one of the stars but he will be worth it as he has picked up a few wickets in his home ground where the qualifier will be held and if his side has a good outing, they will also be playing the final on the same venue.

Stuart Binny

This choice might surprise a few but with Binny costing just 5000 rupees he can prove to be a bargain buy. Another factor that can work in his favour is the fact that he will be playing in his home ground. He knows the conditions pretty well and is a useful batsman to finish off an innings.

The Royal Challengers have also been using him as a new ball bowler since he swings the ball both ways. He might pick out a wicket or two. If you are looking for a cheap buy in the fantasy after filling your batting slots with the stars, then Binny will be your ideal option.
