Paris St Germain have ruled themselves out of the running to sign Yohan Cabaye, giving Newcastle real hope that they might keep the Frenchman throughout another transfer window.

With Arsene Wenger having already ruled out Arsenal coming back for another bid for the midfielder, but the shadow of filthy-rich PSG loomed large over St James’ Park, as they prepared themselves for a bid for their star player.

PSG boss Laurent Blanc is a well known admirer of Cabaye’s but owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has ruled out any action from the Ligue Un leaders this January unless anybody happens to depart the Parisian outfit.

Al-Khelaifi said, “The transfer market does not exist for me.

“For us today, we are not thinking of a specific player. We watch because we don’t know what will happen in the coming weeks.

“I do not think we will recruit. The squad is fine as it is.”

Manager Laurent Blanc concurred with his President, saying, “I have always thought Cabaye was a very good player. I am very happy with the strength of my squad, but there may be movement based upon departures.”
