The Greatest Rivalry of the PG Era

The Best in The World spoke against a lot of big namesCM Punk is in itself a name that became big depending on his fearless promos and interviews and backing it all up in the ring via his wrestling skills.Even though he walked away from WWE and left a huge void, the show went on. The show still goes on, but his presence would still make such a difference. Even though the discussions on his return loomed long after he'd left and so did the 'CM Punk' chants, they all faded away after some time. His UFC debut has been much awaited and much doubtful. He's been so entertaining, funny and fierce in his promo and interviews, that his voice is certainly something you want to hear and it's something that can't be sidelined for long. Here are the 5 big names CM Punk went after in his promos & interviews-

#6 Honorable Mention- John Cena

The Greatest Rivalry of the PG Era

Don’t know how WWE will look at this rivalry, in the long run, but this one between CM Punk and John Cena has been the most defining rivalry in both men’s careers.

Cena hadn’t found a kryptonite as strong as Punk and this feud with Cena changed the course of Punk’s entire WWE career. Punk has in the past said that Cena is really good as ‘kissing Vince McMahon’s ass’ and has been dissatisfied with how much Vince and Co. think about Cena and what’s next for him.

Punk does respect Cena, no doubt about that. What he dislikes is the mere supremacy that the Boston native has been bestowed with when there are so many around him as good as or maybe better than him around.

#5 Hulk Hogan

Punk was never fond of Hogan

The Hulkster has had his fair share of controversies. He’s dealing with one right now.

Over the years, it’s been no secret about how arrogant this WWE legend can get. Punk’s never been fond of him – never. Actually, when the whole nation was going berserk on Hulkamania, Punk was more interested in the heels of the time.

But Punk’s disdain for Hogan is not because he was this juggernaut of a babyface. It’s because years ago, when he had just signed with the WWE, he saw Hogan backstage and stood there getting ready for a handshake and Hogan looked at him and walked straight away, ignoring him completely.

In his famous pipebomb promo, he listed Hogan at being really good at kissing Vince Mcmahon’s ass.

Just recently, he called Hogan out, after a hockey match between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Tampa Bay Lighting. He called him a hack and asked him to shut up.

#4 The Rock

CM Punk during his feud with The Rock

The Rock was also a name featured in Punk’s scathing promo 4 years ago, like Cena and Hogan.

The main beef Punk had with The Rock was the fact that being a part time wrestler he was getting all the hype and opportunities that a full-time wrestler was working hard day in and day out to get.

It made him sick that Rock and Cena main evented two years in a row and he did not. He was frustrated that these guys were paid so much more for main eventing when he knew and told the same by the likes of Vince and Triple H that his match with The Undertaker was the best at Mania.

He talked about this particular frustration on the Colt Cabana Podcast. News soon reached The Rock and he gave Punk a call and both of them sorted everything out. Punk even called him a cool guy later on.

#3 Chris Brown

Chris Brown and Punk had a brief Twitter war

This was hilarious and legit entertaining. Chris Brown gained infamy after it became news that he’d physically assaulted Rihanna who was his girlfriend once upon a time.

After his controversial Grammy win, Punk just threw a tweet which said, “I would like @chrisbrown fight somebody that can defend themselves. Me curb stomping that turd would be a #wrestlemania moment.”

That provoked Brown enough to earn a rebuttal. He accused Punk of trying to earn more followers, that the straight edge superstar uses steroids and did not consider him a real wrestler.

That tweet on Punk using steroids clearly riled the Chicago native and he sent out a video tweet where he invited Brown to a fight and suggested the proceeds go to a women's shelter and that he’ll make Brown feel as miserable as any of the women who had the misfortune of knowing the rapper. Brown called the video ‘cute’.

The dust settled there.

#2 Triple H

Not the best of friends

Looking back at all the Punk promos and the statements he made on the Colt Cabana podcast, nobody’s been as blamed as Triple H.

Punk admits that he and Triple H never shared great vibes. He even accused Hunter of stealing the idea of The Shield. Punk was also dissatisfied with a match the company was putting him in for Wrestlemania 30.

It was against Triple H and the Chicago native was not happy as this guy hadn’t put him over in 2011, which was, as everyone knows, his breakthrough year. He was fed statements like wrestling Triple H is like being in the main event.

Punk’s rebuttal was accordingly scathing, “All due respect, I do not need to wrestle you, you need to wrestle me. I do not want to wrestle you. I seriously resent you for not putting me over three years ago when you should have. That would have been best for business, but you had to fucking come in and squash it.”

He added, “And then I had to lose to fucking Truth and Miz. It didn't make any business sense then, it doesn't make any business sense now, and I am in a position now where I can tell you that I don't have to nor do I want to wrestle you at Wrestlemania. I don't care if I was supposed to win.”

#1 Vince McMahon

Punk makes McMahon apologize live on Raw in 2011

You haven’t been a fearless talker if you haven’t challenged or called out the biggest names in the business.

And who’s got the biggest name in wrestling other than Vince McMahon? Punk resented the fact that Vince always cared about Cena above everyone else. Even when Punk had an idea, they would say no to that and two days later, Cena would be executing the same thing.

According to Punk, McMahon on several occasions requested him to work on something he didn’t want to. Like going on tours when he was injured or working events or putting the Rock over. Every time McMahon stated that he’ll owe Punk one in the near future.

Punk kept on believing that all of this will lead him into the main event of Wrestlemania someday. That day, as we all know, never came.

So, in retrospect it was glorious that Punk made him publicly apologize on Raw towards the build up to Money in the Bank 2011.
