3 reasons why the WWE Universe is slowly turning on Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins is slowly becoming a controversial babyface.

Seth Rollins is undoubtedly among the most talented performers of the last few decades. His unique move-set is just one of the reasons why fans thoroughly enjoy his matches. You can never fully predict what the Kingslayer has up his sleeve until the end of the show.

It should be noted however that WWE is a part of the Sports Entertainment industry. As important the in-ring skills are, a compelling character is equally crucial to succeed in the business and connect with the audience. During his heel run, Rollins did a remarkable job, both in the ring and in terms of his character. His face run, however, seems a little too generic.

After Roman Reigns left for SmackDown Live a few months ago, it became evident that Seth Rollins would take over as the Flagship show's next top babyface. Although Rollins never ceases to amaze in the ring, his promo work has become quite repetitive. This has caused a significant decline in the number of his supporters.

Many members of the WWE Universe have already started getting tired of the Architect and here are 3 main reasons why it is happening.

#3 Struggling to find a character

Seth Rollins'
Seth Rollins' "Always Ready to Fight" promos have started coming off as quite generic.

As mentioned above, a Superstar can only go so far with exceptional in-ring skills. A unique character is essential to stay over with the fans. Superstars like The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, etc. remained successful for the most part of their career due to portraying characters that set them apart from others.

Seth Rollins had a strong character from 2014-2016 during his heel run and he played it to perfection. In the fall of 2016, he completed his face turn after being betrayed by The Authority. Although the heroic character seemed fresh at start, it became stale real quick. Reunion with Dean Ambrose and becoming an integral part of the Intercontinental Title picture saved him the need of adopting a solid character.

Then after being promoted to the main event scene once again, Rollins' flaws were exposed. His promos became old soon and his words started sounding less engaging over time. In WWE, a "Never Give Up" attitude can get a Superstar over, but they need to do something exceptional to stay at the top. It will be interesting to see if Rollins can find that edge in his character.

#2 Booking blunders

Perhaps, the time wasn't right for uniting Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch on-screen.
Perhaps, the time wasn't right for uniting Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch on-screen.

Top Superstars have countless eyes on them. Therefore, it is important to carefully book their feuds and matches. The goal should be to keep the WWE Universe invested in their story-lines. When Rollins slayed The Beast Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35, he was booked to feud against AJ Styles, which progressed naturally and culminated in an exceptional match.

Since then, Rollins hasn't been booked effectively. He was involved in a two-month feud with Baron Corbin, which didn't sit well with the WWE Universe. Although the matches between the two were quite decent, the storyline lacked any sort of uniqueness or hook to lure in viewers.

Then, he got paired with his real-life girlfriend Becky Lynch. Although the alliance had the potential to thrive in WWE and get over with the fans, the timing just wasn't right and it almost seemed forced.

As a Universal Champion, the Beastslayer was a part of many mismatched storylines. This drove away many members of the WWE Universe.

#1 Recent Twitter beefs and interview statements

Seth Rollins' heel character still reflects in his Interviews.

If you follow Seth Rollins on Twitter, you should have noticed a change in how he presents himself on social media. During and after the Stomping Grounds, he couldn't stop praising the matches on the card. He continued praising WWE on Twitter, which is fair considering the fact that he has been treated fairly well since his debut.

When he got into a Twitter spat with Will Ospreay, however, that's when some of his fans got concerned. He boasted about his bank balance, which earned him significant criticism. He later apologized for the tweet. However, he continues to portray a "corporate" pro-WWE character when not on WWE TV and that hasn't sat well with his fans. The over-appreciation comes off as quite heelish. He has also almost made it a habit to sporadically take shots at Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose, Seth's best friend as well as arch-rival in WWE).

Long story short, Seth Rollins is an incredible talent and is capable of unimaginable things. However, he has been miscast as the top babyface of WWE and significant work needs to be done on his character.
