WWE Survivor Series 2018: 5 Reasons Why Becky Lynch Chose Charlotte Flair To Replace Her Against Ronda Rousey

Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey was by far the most anticipated match on the Survivor Series card. Becky Lynch has been on fire of late and the go-home RAW saw Becky Lynch lead the charge against Team RAW.

She started off by launching a backstage attack on her original opponent Ronda Rousey, having her locked in the Disarmher. She then proceeded single-handedly to the ring and while it looked like she was outnumbered, the SmackDown Women's team jumped in and ambushed the red brand women.

Unfortunately, during the brawl, Nia Jax legitimately punched Becky Lynch, resulting in her nose breaking and a severe concussion. It's crazy to think that Becky Lynch finished the entire segment on autopilot, even attacking Rousey with a steel chair.

The final shot of her walking through the crowd with blood smeared over her face made her look like a badass in every sense of the word. Her stock went up but unfortunately, she was pulled from Survivor Series and chose bitter rival Charlotte Flair as her replacement.

It took many fans by surprise because Charlotte vs Rousey was the expected WrestleMania 35 main event. Let's take a look into why Becky Lynch made that choice.

#5 Bigger plans for Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch has taken the ball and run with it. It seems like the office, and more importantly, Vince McMahon himself has taken notice of this. Although her dream match with Rousey may be over, it doesn't mean that they're not going to clash in the future.

In fact, if anything, they may clash on a bigger stage that so happens to be The Grandest Stage Of Them All - WrestleMania.

If Becky Lynch continues the momentum she has then it's very possible that she ends up getting the coveted Ronda Rousey match at WrestleMania. So there's a big upside to this too.

#4 Out of respect after a Match Of The Year candidate

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch had a Match of the year candidate at Evolution, in what was easily the best in their series of matches. Things had taken a turn for Becky Lynch at SummerSlam as she turned on her best friend Charlotte Flair.

But that brought out a new side in her and it also helped her bring out the best in Charlotte as well. Becky Lynch knows well and good that they both bring out the best in each other, which is why she chose her greatest rival.

Becky Lynch did hug Charlotte after choosing her to face Rousey, seemingly putting aside their differences. It's definitely going to be interesting to see that direction going forward. The champion hugging Charlotte could only mean one of two things. What's the other? Well, it's something a little less surprising but a little more dark.

#3 To turn on her again

Becky Lynch may be a fan favourite now but don't forget that she's still technically a heel. Just because she hugged Charlotte Flair doesn't necessarily mean that it's all well and good.

It's true that they likely won't be feuding for a while to come since their rivalry concluded at Evolution, but even then, if Charlotte beats Rousey, it gives Becky Lynch a reason to turn on her for taking her spot. If she loses, it also gives Becky Lynch a reason to mock her further.

Either way, Charlotte Flair may not necessarily get a hero's welcome from the champion after Survivor Series. But with that being said, it does seem logical to keep the two separate for a while now. The feud they had after the summer of this year was magical and it gave Becky Lynch a much-needed boost after two years of ups and downs (mostly downs).

#2 She was the best possible option on SmackDown Live

Charlotte Flair is a 7-time Champion. She was the final Divas Champion in history and the first-ever RAW Women's Champion. Over the past three years on the main roster, she's shown rapid improvement and proven time and again why she's deserving of the spotlight that's constantly put on her.

The only superstar in the SmackDown women's locker room who you could make a case for to face Rousey was Asuka. That too is a dream match and would have been a great option, but it seems like at the moment, Charlotte is simply the best option to go with.

It also adds a super high-calibre match up to the card. Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey was the match on the card but adding Charlotte does make for a good consolation prize.

However, the real reason why Charlotte vs Rousey was booked so far before planned was likely this.

#1 To set up a Four Horsewomen vs Four Horsewomen feud

The real reason why Charlotte vs Rousey has been booked so early, apart from Becky Lynch's injury is likely to set up a feud between the Four Horsewomen of WWE and the Four Horsewomen of MMA.

Interestingly, both groups are signed by WWE and only Ronda Rousey is on the main roster among the MMA horsewomen, with Jessamyn Duke, Shayna Baszler and Marina Shafir all training in the Performance Center.

Baszler has shown an unreal amount of improvement in a short time and it's going to be interesting to see how the other two do. Either way, the match between Charlotte and Rousey could begin the slow build towards WrestleMania 35, where we get the dream match of The Four Horsewomen vs The Four Horsewomen.

It was initially rumoured for Survivor Series but it's likely that Shafir and Duke aren't ready yet. They do have time, however, till WrestleMania to train and improve. Either way, things are going to get heated in the wake of 2019. It's certainly an exciting time to be a fan of WWE's Women's Division!
