What's the story?

This year's Royal Rumble is making history before it is even broadcast because it will feature the first ever Women's Royal Rumble match, Stephanie McMahon will be on commentary and Maria Menounos will be the guest ring announcer and it seems that a number of familiar faces could be set to return.

In case you didn't know...

Nikki and Brie Bella haven't been seen in WWE for a number of months, even though the duo were part of Raw's 25th Anniversary this past week and showed that they are both in incredible shape.

Brie walked away from WWE following her win at WrestleMania 32 back in 2016 when it was revealed that she and her husband Daniel Bryan wanted to start a family. She gave birth to her daughter Birdie Joe last year and has recently dropped a number of hints on Total Divas about returning to the ring this year.

Nikki Bella was part of WrestleMania 33 last year but hasn't been seen in a wrestling ring since John Cena proposed to his girlfriend of five years and it was revealed that she was struggling with her surgically repaired neck so she needed to take a hiatus.

The heart of the matter

Nikki and Brie Bella mentioned being part of The Royal Rumble on an episode of Total Divas and sticking around until WrestleMania 34, it seems that WWE like this idea since it was recently reported by SquaredCircleSirens that the duo has been spotted in Philadelphia ahead of tonight's historic Women's Royal Rumble match.

The sisters are expected to play their parts in tonight's match and have been rumored to be entrants in the match over the past few weeks.

What's next?

There are only a few hours left now until The 31st annual Royal Rumble so it seems that all the surprise entrants will be unveiled soon enough. If Nikki and Brie are sticking around until WrestleMania then it will be interesting to see if they can pick up a feud in tonight's Rumble match.

Author's take

The Bella Twins were always going to be part of this match, the duo has been begging to make history and was upset that they weren't part of the Money in the Bank ladder match last year. With rumors suggesting that Women's Tag Team Championship belts could be added to WWE in the coming months, The Bella Twins would be a great addition to the tag team division and could pick up a decent feud tonight.
