Rob Van Dam ( Robert Szatkowski ) and his wife Sonya are about to get divorced. The two married, back in 1998 and one possible reason for an end to this 18 year long married life is “irreconcilable differences”, as reported by TMZ. Allwrestlingnews.com reveals that, the couple decided to separate with each other in December and after a few months divorce seemed to be the only solution as they were unable to reconcile.
Throughout the illustrious wrestling career of Rob Van Dam, Sonya has remained as his constant supporter. She often traveled with him for various wrestling events and was spotted at ringside on multiple occasions. Unfortunately in 2008, Sonya was detected with cancer. To be with his wife in the hard times, Van Dam didn’t hesitate to take a hiatus from his wrestling career, even when he was in his peak. Sonya has now fully recovered from the disease.
Van Dam now wrestles in the independent circuit only, that too at rare occasions. His last match was in October 2015, for Pro Wrestling Syndicate in New Jersey, where he was defeated by John Morrison. Till now, the former TNA and WWE World Champion has decided to not join any major wrestling promotion after his second stint with WWE came to an end in late 2014.
