Chris Jericho: Doing it for the art

What’s the story?

In a recent appearance on The Other Guys Podcast, Jericho spoke candidly about the possibility of another WWE run.

"The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla" spoke honestly about his future in wrestling, admitting that he would be content with his legacy if he never laced up the boots again.

“Will I be back? Maybe, possibly. If I never wrestled again it wouldn’t bother me,” said Jericho.

In case you didn't know...

In recent years, Jericho has bounced back and forth between WWE runs and outside interests, most notably his band Fozzy, as well as a television career. Jericho's most recent WWE run featured the infamous "List of Jericho" and concluded with a feud over the US Title with Kevin Owens.

The heart of the matter

Jericho went on to state that over the course of his storied career he has worked with everyone, and that there are no one-off dream matches for him. He also said that the real attraction for him would be the story behind any match he came back for.

"If I can think of a good story or if a good story is presented to me, then I’m all in, and I don’t care if it’s with John Cena or if it’s with Enzo Amore, whoever.

“If it’s a good storyline that I can sink my teeth into that I know people will love then I’ll come back again. If not, then it might be a little harder to attract me,” said Jericho.

What’s next?

Interest in Fozzy has recently skyrocketed, with their single "Judas" getting over 8 million hits on Youtube and reaching #23 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart -- their highest ever placing. Their latest album, also titled "Judas", is due for release next month, with touring to inevitably follow.

Between Fozzy and a burgeoning TV career that has seen appearances on such fixtures as "Dancing with the Stars" and "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Jericho is very busy. He has also released his fourth book "No is a four letter word" last month.

Author’s take

Jericho is in a comfortable place in his wrestling career; he has nothing to prove to anyone and hasn't for a long time. He seems more content with seeing his wrestling as an art form and creating moments and feuds that will leave an impression on fans, rather than returning for big money and dream matches.

We hope he returns to WWE in the future, but if he decides not to, he has left an incredible body of work and should be in any conversation regarding the greatest talents of his generation.
