What’s the story?

Matt Hardy has taken to social media so as to tease Brother Nero’s return.

Photographed alongside Jeff Hardy, Matt asserted that he knew Brother Nero would come.

In case you didn’t know…

Matt Hardy portrayed the wildly popular ‘Broken’ gimmick in Impact Wrestling back in 2016. Jeff Hardy, Matt, his wife Reby, son Maxel Hardy and Reby’s father Senor Benjamin portrayed different characters of the Broken Universe in Impact Wrestling—earning widespread praise for the same from fans and critics alike.

While the Hardy family were involved in a legal battle over the intellectual property rights to the Broken gimmick with Impact Wrestling for a better part of 2017, the issue was resolved late last year.

The heart of the matter

Although Jeff Hardy is expected to be out of action owing to an injury, until April of this year, Matt Hardy began portraying himself as ‘Woken’ and is now feuding with Bray Wyatt on Monday Night RAW.

Intriguingly, Jeff Hardy—who portrayed Brother Nero in the Broken Universe—appeared in a dark segment at RAW 25 earlier this week, and performed the ‘Obsolete’ song at the Manhattan Center. Matt Hardy sent out the following photograph of himself with ‘Brother Nero’, which alludes towards a potential reunion between these two key members of the Broken Universe in the WWE.

Furthermore, fans have also been pointing out one of Broken/Woken Matt’s objects of fascination—Triple H—often referred to by Matt as The Man with the three H’s—

What’s next?

Fans can expect Matt Hardy to continue his feud with Bray Wyatt on Monday Night Raw in the days to come.

Matt has also indicated that his character is likely to undergo a further transformation from ‘Woken’ to ‘Broken’ over the next few days.

Author’s take

Matt Hardy truly is one of the last of a dying breed—maintaining kayfabe and putting in strong character work.

Honestly speaking, it’d be great to see the Broken Universe gradually introduce themselves to the WWE Universe. Here’s hoping Jeffrey Nero Hardy recovers soon and joins Woken/Broken Matt in his ‘Great War’.
