What's the story?

WWE will host Starrcade as a non-televised live event next week and it will feature a very different card than originally advertised with changes made to three of the championship matches.

In case you didn’t know...

Starrcade traditionally was a WCW and NWA event that began in Greensboro, North Carolina back in 1983. WWE’s version of Starrcade will feature the SmackDown roster with appearances from former NWA and WCW wrestlers.

WWE announced back in September that they were reviving the Starrcade pay-per-view as a special live event during Thanksgiving weekend.

The heart of the matter

The following is the updated card for Starrcade:

WWE Championship Steel Cage Match – AJ Styles(c) vs. Jinder Mahal
SmackDown Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match – Charlotte Flair(c) vs. Natalya
United States Championship – Baron Corbin(c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Fatal 4 Way - The Usos(c) vs. The New Day vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
Dustin Rhodes vs. Dash Wilder

The original card featured Mahal defending the WWE Championship against Nakamura in the Steel Cage, Styles as the United States Champion defending against Corbin and Rusev, The New Day as Tag Team Champions facing The Usos in a Texas Tornado match for the titles and Zayn facing Owens.

Every championship on the SmackDown brand Liv has changed hands since September which caused the Starrcade card to be altered. The only matches that haven’t been altered are Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler and the SmackDown Women’s Steel Cage match which will feature Flair as the champion rather than Natalya.

The biggest changes to the card for Starrcade have been the other championship matches and the addition of Dash Wilder of The Revival taking on Dustin Rhodes; presumably not as the Goldust character.

What’s next?

The Starrcade live event will emanate from the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina on Wednesday, November 25, a week after the War Games returns.

The wrestlers scheduled to make appearances in Greensboro include The Hardy Boyz and WWE Hall of Famers Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair.

Author’s Take

Starrcade seems like a pretty good show. It's just too bad it's not being aired on the WWE Network.
