The Rock talks about his struggle to reach the top

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, in an interview that covered his professional and personal life, talked about the years when he was depressed following numerous set-backs, which he has never talked about publicly.

Today, Dwayne Johnson is one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, but as a teenager he had to face a lot of struggles in pursuit of his dreams.

Recalling his teenage years, The Rock stated that when he was just 14-years-old, he landed in trouble with the law and was evicted from his home he shared with his mother.

Johnson, who dreamed of playing in the NFL, had to give up on his dreams after getting hurt playing football in college. During that time Johnson used to live in a two-bedroom apartment with three of his football teammates and used to sleep on a mattress he found on the street.

Recalling those years he stated, "The dreams I had, they're dashed. There is no more football. My relationship was crushed. That was my absolute worst time...I looked in my pocket, and I had seven bucks. Wow. Seven bucks to my name."

Growing up with his parents who struggled to make ends meet, Johnson decided to begin body-building in an effort to maintain a sense of control. Thus failing to make it to the football team due to his injuries, he decided to follow on the footsteps of his father by pursuing a career in wrestling. After debuting in the WWE, The Rock scaled new heights. But he did not want to stop there he followed by switching tracks and entering the world of movies.

Here too he had to face failure as his movies failed to perform well at the box-office. Soon after making ‘The Tooth fairy’ in 2010, The Rock was unsure about his future. Seeking help, he called upon Vince McMahon for advice. McMahon set him with up with agent Ari Emmanuel, who flew to Johnson's home to set up a meeting with 150 staffers of William Morris Endeavor to show him how serious they were about working with him.

That change in representation led to The Rock finally coming back to WWE, as well as landing major roles in movies such as ‘Race to Witch Mountain’, ‘Fast and Furious 4’ and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’.

Johnson also opened up about his personal life and the effect his divorce had on him and how it led to him changing his life.
