Boban Marjanovic

Boban Marjanovic is a professional basketball player who plays as the centre for the Houston Rockets. Standing at 7 feet 4 inches tall, Marjanovic is one of the tallest players in the NBA.

Marjanovic was born on August 15, 1988. He first started playing basketball at age 13 after experiencing a significant growth spurt. By age 15, Marjanovic had grown to 6 feet 10 inches tall. His immense height gave him an advantage on the court from an early age.

Before joining the NBA, Marjanovic played professionally for teams in Serbia and Russia. He was named an All-EuroLeague First Team member in 2015 while playing for Crvena Zvezda in Serbia. That same year, Marjanovic also earned the EuroLeague Rising Star award.

Boban Marjanovic's Nationality

Boban Marjanovic was born on August 15, 1988 in Boljevac, Serbia. Boljevac is a small town of roughly 15,000 residents located about 100 miles east of the country's capital of Belgrade.

Despite his impressive height, Marjanovic comes from a family of average stature. His father stands only 5 feet 9 inches tall. It is believed Marjanovic's extreme height is due to a pituitary gland condition that led to gigantism.

Marjanovic began playing basketball at a young age in his hometown. By age 15, he had already grown to 6 feet 10.5 inches tall. He played on the youth teams of the local club Rtanj Boljevac before joining the Serbian professional club Hemofarm and competing in their youth leagues starting at age 15.

Though extraordinarily tall from a young age, Marjanovic continued progressing through Hemofarm's youth squads until the 2005-2006 season when he was promoted to the senior team at age 17.

Boban Marjanovic Draft

After playing professionally in Serbia and Russia, Boban Marjanovic declared for the 2015 NBA draft at age 26. He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 27th overall pick in the second round.

Marjanovic played his first NBA season in San Antonio in 2015-2016. As a rookie, he saw limited minutes but was efficient when on the court, averaging 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

After showing promise with the Spurs, Marjanovic signed a three-year contract with the Detroit Pistons in 2016. However, he struggled to find a consistent role in Detroit. In the 2017-2018 season, the Pistons traded Marjanovic to the Los Angeles Clippers, where he continued to play as a backup.

Midway through 2018-2019, the Clippers sent Marjanovic to the Philadelphia 76ers. But his stint in Philadelphia was short, appearing in just 22 regular season games for the 76ers before being traded again to the Dallas Mavericks.

Marjanovic played two and a half seasons as a reliable bench option for Dallas, becoming a fan favourite. In August 2021, he was part of a trade package that landed him with the Houston Rockets, his current team.

In the 2022-23 season so far, Marjanovic averaged 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds over 33 game appearances. Though his minutes were limited, he continued bringing energy, rebounding and inside scoring when called upon.
