Josh Hart has established himself as a versatile guard-forward for the New York Knicks as of May 2025. Selected 30th overall in the 2017 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz, his NBA career began with the Los Angeles Lakers following a draft-night trade that sent him and Thomas Bryant west in exchange for Tony Bradley. Hart averaged 7.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while leading the Lakers in three-point shooting at 39.6% in his rookie season.

Hart participated in the 2018 NBA Summer League, where he earned MVP honors. During this showcase, he averaged 24.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, setting a Lakers' Summer League record with 37 points in a single game. Following his Lakers tenure, Hart played for the New Orleans Pelicans starting in 2019 and later joined the Portland Trail Blazers in 2022. In 2023, he joined the New York Knicks. In February 2024, Hart recorded his second career triple-double, posting 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists against the Dallas Mavericks.

Josh Hart's collegiate journey at Villanova University began in 2013 after he chose the Wildcats over Rutgers and Penn State. He earned the Big East All-Rookie Team honors in his freshman year while averaging 7.8 points and four rebounds per game. That season, he was named Big East Rookie of the Week three times. During his sophomore year, Hart was the sixth-man, earning the Big East Sixth Man of the Year award. He was named the Most Outstanding Player award in the 2015 Big East Tournament.

Hart's junior year, he helped lead Villanova to its second national championship and first since 1985. He averaged 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. In his senior season, Hart entered as the Big East Preseason Player of the Year and earned a spot on the Associated Press preseason All-America team. He was honored as the Big East Player of the Year and won the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year in 2017. He was also selected to the First Team All-Big East in both 2016 and 2017, named a Sporting News First Team All-American, and received the Robert B. Geasey Trophy in 2017.

Josh Hart initially attended Wheaton High School in Montgomery County, Maryland. He later transferred to Sidwell Friends School located in Bethesda, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. During his senior season, Hart led his high school team to a record of 22-9. He averaged 24.3 points, 13.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game during his senior season as per his college roster. He was named to the first team All-Met by the Washington Post. Hart played his AAU Basketball for Team Takeover as per his college roster.
