Kevin Love is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat. Love plays the position of the power forward or center in the NBA. Love is the son of former NBA player Stan Love and has carved his own place in the NBA. He was a top recruit coming out of high school and committed to play for the University of California Los Angeles Bruins. In 2008, Love was drafted as the 5th overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies and was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves where he made his mark as a prolific rebounder and shooter. Love has been named to the All-Star games 5 times in his career. Love also holds the record for the most number of consecutive double-doubles in NBA history with 53 consecutive games. He has cemented his name in the history of the NBA after having won a seemingly impossible championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Olympics with Team USA.

Kevin Love's Past Teams

Kevin Love has played for three teams over the course of his entire career.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Although Kevin Love was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in no time. Here, Loves established himself as one of the best rebounders and shooters in the NBA. Over the years, he became a generator for double-doubles thanks to his ability on the boards and his long-range shooting. Over the course of his time with the Timberwolves, Love put up impressive numbers with around 19 points, 12 rebounds and under 3 assists per game. He also won the Most Improved Player award and was named to the All-Star game thrice.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Love joined forces with Kyrie Irving and Lebron James in Cleveland in the year 2014 and has remained with the Cavaliers till the 2022-23 NBA season. Cleveland offered Love a new experience because he became the third option on the team as opposed to being the main player. During his time in Cleveland Cavaliers, Love regularly put up double-doubles averaging between 12 and 20 points and around 10 rebounds per game. Love was very successful in Cleveland, being a pivotal player in the team’s Championship win in 2016 and two All-Star appearances.

Miami Heat

Love joined the Heat from Cleveland in the middle of the 2022-23 NBA season after a dwindling stint at Cleveland. The Miami Heat, while placed 8th on the Eastern Conference table, were still regarded as contenders given their style of play led by Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Love was considered a good addition to the team with respect to adding further size and shooting to the Heat’s roster. Playing 21 games for the Heat in the regular season, Love averaged 7.7 points, just under 2 assists and 5.7 rebounds while averaging 20 minutes of playtime per game. The Heat to everyone’s surprise made a deep playoff run, securing a spot in the NBA finals and a chance to win the much-yearned Larry O'Brien Trophy. However, the Heat were no match for the Nuggets who were led by the duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, losing the series 4-1.

Kevin Love is currently an unrestricted free agent in the 2023-24 season. While there are speculations about him joining particular teams he has made no indication whatsoever about his preferences on where he would like to play in the 2023-24 NBA season. What is clear is that any of the teams in the NBA would benefit by adding a player like Love to their roster.
