The 7-foot-0 forward, Lauri Markkanen was drafted as the seventh overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2017 NBA Draft. However, Markkanen was traded to the Chicago Bulls on Draft night. Since the trade, he featured in 221 games over four seasons for the franchise and averaged 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He established himself as one of the best bigs who could shoot the ball from the three-point line which ignited interest from multiple franchises.

Later on, Markkanen joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in a sign-and-trade deal. However, his stint with the Cavaliers was only for a season as the franchise made a blockbuster trade with the Utah Jazz to land Donovan Mitchell in Cleveland. The trade made him the first option in Utah and he flourished with the franchise while making his first All-Star appearance of his career in 2023. He averaged 25.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 49.9% from the field and 39.1% from the three-point line on 7.7 attempts per game. He continued the same productivity in the 2023-24 season and averaged 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, recording shooting splits of 48.0/39.9/89.9 as a first option.
