Luke Kornet is an American professional basketball player who plays as a center for the Boston Celtics in the 2025 NBA season. He is the son of former NBA player Frank Kornet, who played for the Milwaukee Bucks. Before entering the NBA, Kornet played four years of collegiate basketball at Vanderbilt University. He was named on the All SEC-Defensive team as a junior, leading the SEC in most blocked shots per game in the 2015/16 season. He received SEC All-Defense honors in 2015-16 and 2016-17 and was named All-SEC First Team in 2016-17. He was also named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2016-17. Kornet ended his Vanderbilt career as the All-time leader in blocks. He averaged 8.9 points with 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in 128 games played, as per Vanderbilt Commodores' official website.

Kornet has played for five different Eastern Conference teams to date, including the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Boston Celtics. He has averaged 5.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.8 blocks per game in his seven-year NBA career, as per Sports Reference. Kornet was also part of the 2023-24 Boston Celtics team that went on to win the championship defeating the Dallas Mavericks in the finals. As of April 2025, Kornet is coming off the bench for the Boston Celtics as their backup center.

Luke Kornet's Draft

Luke Kornet went undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. However, the New York Knicks invited him to the 2017 NBA Summer League and signed him on a two-way contract. He made his NBA debut in 2018, scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes. He became the second rookie in Knicks history to debut with a double-double.

He was later signed by the Chicago Bulls in 2019 and played 49 games over two seasons before he was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2021. After initially playing for the Celtics’ G League affiliate, Kornet signed 10-day contracts with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks in 2022, before returning to the Celtics roster.
