Cam Whitmore is dubbed to be one of the brightest players in the already loaded 2023 draft class. Highlighted by big names such as Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson, Cam Whitmore is silently flying under the radar, but can provide a huge boost to any team that drafts him.

Cam Whitmore, born on July 8, 2004, is an American basketball player at the collegiate level for the Villanova Wildcats. He was a consensus five-star recruit and is one of the best players in his draft class.

High School career

Whitmore grew up in Severn, Maryland where he played for Archbishop Spalding High School. His high school stats are immediately available but in his senior year, Whitmore won the Captial Gazette Boys Player of the Year. He was also selected to play in the 2022 McDonald’s All-American Boys game. Another incredible achievement in Whitmore’s high school career is that he played in the FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship where he won Most Outstanding Player. Crediting his commendable high school achievements, Whitmore was a consensus five-star recruit and received offers from Illinois and North Carolina before choosing Villanova.

College Career

After Whitmore signed with Villanova, he missed his first seven games with a thumb injury. In his only season in college, Whitmore averaged 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists. Whitmore was named Big East Conference Men’s Freshman of the Year. This included a game against Georgetown in Madison Square Garden where the 18 year old kid recorded his first double-double in his career. A great feat and all the more impressive that it was carried out in the Mecca of Basketball. He is one of the true one-and-done’s in Villanova’s history since Tim Thomas in 1997. Cam Whitmore is gifted with great size, strength and quickness and is considered to make an immediate impact to whatever team is drafted in. Whitmore is expected to be a lottery pick in the upcoming draft and some scouts have him taken as high as the fourth pick.
