Test cricket is often reckoned as the finest form of cricket and the ongoing Ashes series supports that argument to perfection.

The Aussies were a whisker away from retaining the Ashes but a miraculous innings from Ben Stokes in the third Test ensured that the series is still in the balance.

While numbers in the shorter format of the game are impressive, the same is not the case when his Test career is put into cognizance.

Jos Buttler has scored a total of 65 runs in six innings so far, a truly disappointing return for a batsman of Jos Buttler's calibre. To justify his place in the side, the Englishman needs to step up for good.

#3 David Warner

David Warner returned to the International scene this summer after serving a year-long ban. The mercurial left-hander had an awe-inspiring World Cup with the bat as he finished second on the batting charts with 648 runs to his name as Australia reached the semifinals of the tournament.

Unfortunately, his return to this Test squad hasn't been entirely fruitful as the Australian opener has failed to light up the stage in the ongoing Ashes competition.

Keeping his knock of 61 in Australia's first innings at Headingley aside, it has been all dull and gloomy for David Warner in the series. His form at the top has become a major concern for Australia in the ongoing series.

#2 Tim Paine

England v Australia - 3rd Specsavers Ashes Test: Day Four

Tim Paine very nearly became the only Australian skipper to win/draw an Ashes series in England since 2001 but Ben Stokes' masterclass brought England back into the series with an astonishing victory at Headingly.

The third Test between the two age-long rivals had its share of drama as the visitors very nearly won the match but at the end had to endure the trauma of witnessing a sure-shot victory slip out of their hands.

While Ben Stokes and company were truly unbelievable in that chase but there were some objectionable decisions by Tim Paine that infuriated a handful of Australian Cricket fans. He looked out of sorts at times and was a bit disappointing with the reviews as well.

Paine's leadership skills have raised a question or two following Australia's defeat at the hands of England in Leeds but what has been more disappointing is his batting. With a return of 77 across six innings, Paine has been one of the disappointing performers from the Australian camp.

#1 Jason Roy

Prior to Ashes 2019, Jason Roy had a remarkable summer having helped his side in winning their first-ever World Cup. The Surrey man was instrumental in the famous triumph and his deeds in the limited-overs earned him a callup to the Test squad.

Ardent followers of English Cricket hoped that Jason Roy would carry his World Cup form to The Ashes but sadly the Englishman has failed to produce prosperous results at the top.

In six innings, Roy has scored a meagre 57 runs, which hardly justifies his spot in the side. Often known as a free-flowing dynamic opener in the limited-overs format, Roy has found a hard time dealing with the moving red ball at the top. His struggle against the new ball has been pretty evident which is why Joe Denly is set to replace him at the top.

Jason Roy's switch to No. 4 will come as a sigh of relief for the English cricket fans, who've grown impatient with Roy's form at the top.

The upcoming Test match will certainly play a huge role in Roy's Test career whose place in the starting XI hangs by a thread.
