India become the second team to register 500 ODI wins

The Indian cricket team became the second side to register 500 ODI wins with a thrilling victory against Australia at Nagpur to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series on Tuesday.

The match finished in the last over as Vijay Shankar bowled India home, taking two wickets when Australia needed 11 with two wickets in hand. He removed set batsman Marcus Stoinis off the first ball, and sent back the last man on the third delivery, handing the hosts 8-run win.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. The tourists made the most of the new ball, removing Rohit Sharma in the very first over. They kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals, but for India, it was skipper Virat Kohli who guided the innings.

The modern-day batting great scored a scintillating century, taking India to a par total of 250 runs. Vijay Shankar played a fabulous cameo of 46 runs before losing his wicket in a bizarre run-out. In reply, the Aussies started off well, though they lost the pace in the middle-overs.

The Indian spin attack led by Kuldeep Yadav shared five wickets amongst them. Yadav picked up three while Jadeja and Jadhav took one each, giving away little runs. However, it was Jasprit Bumrah who got the hosts back in the game.

He picked up two wickets in the 46th over, giving India a chance to steal the game. Meanwhile, it was the 500th victory for India in One Day Internationals, taking them to second in the most number of wins in ODIs, after Australia.
