India had been asked to bat in the crucial semi-final and thanks to another unbeaten half-century by Virat Kohli, they managed to post 192 on the board. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane played useful roles but it was Kohli once again that was the standout with his unbeaten 89.

But with a match-winning unbeaten 82 from Lendl Simmons and a fifty from Johnson Charles and unbeaten 20-ball 43 from Andre Rusell, West Indies won the match by seven wickets with two balls to spare.

After the game, MS Dhoni was questioned about whether he would retire after the Indian team’s exit from the ICC World T20 by cricket.com.au journalist Samuel Ferris. What happened next was something nobody could have predicted.

First, Dhoni repeated the question and then said, “Come here, let’s have some fun” before asking Ferris to join him. The journalist, who was taken aback waited for a while before Dhoni pulled up a chair next to him and uttered the words “I am serious, come here.”

ICC WT20 2016

Captain MS Dhoni turns the tables - gets a journalist to answer his query on retirement plans.

Posted by Indian Cricket Team on Thursday, 31 March 2016

Here is the entire transcript of what transpired:

Journalist: Have you played your last game for India?

Dhoni (Calls him and asks him to sit next to him): Do you want me to retire?

Journalist: Not that I want. That's what I want to ask you.

Dhoni: I was hoping it was an Indian media guy because I can't really ask you if you have a son or a brother who is a wicketkeeper. Do you think I am unfit? Do you like my running?

Journalist: No. No. Yes, you are fast.

Dhoni: Do you think I can survive till 2019 World Cup?

Journalist: Yes

Dhoni: Then you have answered the question!

He was done even after that as he elaborated just how much he wanted that question to be asked by an Indian journalist. He said: “I wish it was an Indian media person. Then I would have asked if he has a son who is a wicketkeeper and ready to play. He would have said no, then I would have said maybe a brother who is a wicketkeeper and who is ready to play. You fired the right ammunition at the wrong time."

Dhoni then went back to answering questions about the defeat as he showed just how much of a good sport he is.
