Kabbadi Premier League: Vijayawada being spruced up

The city of Vijayawada is being spruced up for the prestigious Kabaddi Premier League (KPL) to be held from June 8. The DRMC Indoor Stadium is decked up for the mega event, which is being held for the first time. The court is being readied on the international standards, where matches will be conducted on mats.

The DRMC Indoor Stadium is being fully air-conditioned temporarily to beat the heat and humidity and provide comfortable atmosphere both for the players and the audiences.

Seating arrangements for the audiences too are being readied for the mega event. The teams will report to the organizing committee on June 6 and the match officials on June 7. A warm up match will be held at the venue on Monday evening. The local match officials and volunteers have already taken position for the pre-event arrangements, which include the arrangements at the venue, arrangements for the boarding of the players and officials and their transportation.

Eight Men teams will vie for the top honor. The tournament will be organized under floodlights from 6 pm to 10 pm, with four matches played in a day. The matches will be conducted according to the accepted international standards of Kabaddi. The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India’s technical committee chairman will be the chief of the technical officials for all the matches played as part of the KPL.

Vijayawada city had hosted senior men and women national championships three times (1959, 1977 & 1990) and international men & women championship in 1993, federation cup in 1987. Having conducted these matches successfully in the past, the city had become a home town for the country’s oldest game, Kabaddi. We are sure this event will certainly bring better patronage for Kabaddi in the days to come. We strongly believe that Kabaddi needs to be supported and the players are to be encouraged to make this oldest sport and inspire our Kabaddi players.
