Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is very disappointed about his results in the Canadian Grand Prix last Sunday. He fell behind the leading pack to finish fifth at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

“We tried to win the race, but the gamble didn’t pay off,” Alonso said after the race. “It’s easy now to say we should have also made a second stop, but it would have meant trying nothing and we probably would have lost position to Vettel anyway.”

“The car was practically competitive all race-long. It wasn’t the quickest here – the McLaren was very quick, as expected – but we have definitely made a step forward in terms of performance.” Fernando continued.

Despite the big disappointment, Alonso is ready to look forward to new and better results. “We need to work out how to improve tyre degradation,” Alonso said. “Ä few degrees in temperature make such a difference between preserving your tyres and them coming to the end of their life.”

Even though the Spanish driver did not have a podium place Sunday, he is still second in the standings and just two points behind the current leader Lewis Hamilton. This means that everything is still possible, and a lot can happen in the upcoming races.
