The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Rod Christopher Godwin Jr. was born on February 27, 1996. Drafted with the 84th overall pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Godwin started 2 games and played in 16 of them in his rookie season. In the final week of the regular season 2017, Godwin was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He ended his rookie season with 35 receptions for 525 yards and one touchdown. His first 1000-yard season came in 2019 scoring nine touchdowns the following year. In Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl-winning season in 2020, Godwin started in all the 12 games he played in the regular season. He averaged 14.5 yards in the playoff season in 2020.

Godwin has put up four 1000 receiving yards seasons in his NFL career as of 2024. The Buccaneers and Godwin agreed to a three-year deal worth $60 million, with a guaranteed $40 million at signing. He started all 17 games of the regular season for Tampa Bay in 2023. However, after playing in 7 games in 2024, Godwin's season was cut short due to an ankle injury he suffered in a week 7 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Godwin got recruited by a dozen states like Boston College, North Carolina, and many more. He committed to Penn State in 2014 playing for the Lions for his college career. He played in all 13 games in his freshman season, recording 338 yards on 26 receptions.

Godwin picked up the pace during his sophomore season leading wide receivers with 1,101 yards. Being the focus of the defensive lines, he struggled with his stride at the start of his final season. He put up career-high numbers in a game with 187 yards at the Rose Bowl against USC in his last game for the Lions. He announced his declaration for the 2017 NFL Draft later that month. Chris Godwin High School

Godwin attended Middletown High School for his high school football. He grew up in Delaware and loved the Cavaliers. Godwin played a crucial role in the 41-7 record over the years and two State Championships. In his senior year, Godwin put up 1,150 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns.

Godwin is also an All-State as a sophomore, junior and senior. He is also a time All-conference and kick returner from his time at Middletown. Moreover, He received the Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior for his remarkable season. He was rated as a four-star prospect by the major agencies in the country. Being the top 30 wide receivers nationally, Godwin was expected to be recruited to top colleges over the state.
