He contributed to an amazing 41–7 record and secured two State Championships during his four years. Throughout his high school career, he consistently achieved over 700 yards each year, reaching 1,150 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns in his senior season. His impressive high school achievements include being named Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year in his senior year, participating in the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game, and earning All-State recognition as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Godwin also received four-time All-conference honors as a wide receiver and kick returner. He also excelled academically as he earned the Academic All-State honors and a place on the Honor Roll. Godwin was a four-star prospect and was recognized as the top player in Delaware by ESPN, Rivals.com, and 247Sports.com. He was also among the top 30 players nationally at the wide receiver position, according to ESPN, Rivals.com, and 247Sports.com.

He attended Pennsylvania State University. In his freshman year in 2017 with the Nittany Lions, Godwin played in all thirteen games, securing 338 yards from 26 receptions. However, it was during his sophomore season that he truly shone as a prominent wide receiver, accumulating an impressive 1,101 yards and scoring five touchdowns. Throughout this season, Godwin showcased his prowess with at least 100 yards receiving in five games, including a standout 133-yard performance in the TaxSlayer Bowl against Georgia. Despite a challenging start to his junior season, he rebounded with a notable performance of 117 yards receiving and a touchdown against the Temple Owls. In his final game as a Nittany Lion, Godwin delivered a career-high performance, amassing 187 yards from nine catches and scoring two touchdowns in a captivating Rose Bowl matchup against USC. Since entering the NFL in 2017, Godwin has amassed more than 7,200 receiving yards as of November 2024.
