Travis Hunter Sr., father of Travis Hunter, was a track runner as well as a football player at Boynton Beach High School in Florida. During his time there, he was known for his record of running 100 meters in 10.82 seconds. He was also a member of the record-breaking 440-metre relay team while also playing semi-professional football for the Southern States Football League and Florida Football Alliance. Notably, he was the winner of the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in the Southern States Football League in 2007, as per The Sporting News.

Travis Hunter Sr. did not attend his son's Heisman Trophy-winning ceremony on December 14, 2024. He stayed back in Boynton Beach and wanted to watch it on TV.
